I CAN'T LOG IN TO MY CHILD'S ACCOUNT EVEN AFTER CHANGING PASSWORD
I'm posting from my account, my child's account will not log in, even after changing the password 6 times.

Perhaps steam dont want my money? I'm trying to buy a game.
AT THIS STAGE I WOULD PAY MONEY JUST TO BE ABLE TO LOG IN.

I'm a busy parent - we're all busy people - the login system needs to get out of the way and let me log in without this nonsense of account name//display name//email address none of which accept a password!!!!!!

I've tried the account name, the username, the email address each time, using a simple password which I'm not typing incorrectly.

This is incredibly frustrating. I've had this problem with another sibling's account too. Cant remember how I resolved it unfortunately.
I think my child's display name is the same as the account name. could that be the problem?

If there was a way to contact steam support that would be great.

If anyone has found out how to fix this that would be great too.

If you're mistaken about them being the same, most definitely. While logging in, the only relevant name is the Account name. There is no way to log in using the profile/display name or e-mail.

If there was a way to contact steam support that would be great.

If you bought something using your child's account, the e-mailed receipt would include the account name.

Good point. The emailed receipt (if you bought anything yet, be it the Steam Store, the in-game Team Fortress 2 Item Store or the Steam Community Market) could probably help with that problem and can help out with the problem, thus finding your sibling's Steam account name.

i gave up, could not get anywhere.
fortunately there was not much in the account so I created a new one.

I can't understand how such a big platform can have an error such as this.

You were probably using the wrong login name.

you can close everything and then yo enter again

I can't login either but that is due to steam saying there are connectivity issues, it has issues communicating with the steam servers it says for me and then says I got to check my connectivity but that is all ok as you can see from me typing here.

What exactly was the error?

If the page isn't loading at all, then the problem is either your computer or somewhere between your system and Steam. I ran through the account recovery pages and they all loaded properly.

tried manually logout login again, but no good.
Don't log back in. The wizard assumes if you can log in that you no longer need assistance logging in.

If you fail to login multiple times, the system can temp block the account access for a while. So even if you had the valid login afterwards, it would reject it. This is a type of bruteforce protection to prevent malicious hackers from guessing your login details.

If this is the case, you need to wait...

Just leave the account along for 24-48 hrs. Then come back to it.

Use email address and password (ensuring case sensitivity is correct too)

Thank you all for your input.

The error is the fact that i can't log in, and resetting password still won't allow me to log in, and I can't contact support from that account or in connection to that account - i can only post here from another account.

I tried to make a purchase prior to the log-in shenanigans and although the cart had my item when i tried to "purchase this item for myself" and the store attempted to check my login information, it returned an unhelpful error about communicating with the store, and offerred to retry.
So i retried, I reset my computer and retried, waited a few days and retried, logged out and could not log in again, then reset my password, could not log in, reset it again, using mobile phone confirmation, continued to be unable to log in etc, up to 6 times, each time being cautios with pen and paper for password, checking username, display name and login email address.

I recognise the suggestion of brute force prevention, although I was presented with captcha numerous times so I can only assume the brute force prevention had not activated yet.

The wizard, which has the link something along the lines of "logout and go to account recovery" simply refreshes the page and continues to say "yer already logged in mate" or something like that. Well yes I am logged in, to this acount, not my child's account.

The only thing I have not tried is to log into that account using another computer.
but that's pointless since i need that account on my child's computer, although I guess it would at least narrow the problem to the PC in question, which makes no sense because after creating a NEW account, it logged in easily and completed the purchase, download, install etc without a hitch.

So I give up, but am grateful for your suggestions.

You do NOT use a Steam account for support, you have to create a separate support account from there. No Steam account itself can log into support. That is so that you can still get support if you have some problem accessing your account.

That hasn't been the case for a while. You no longer need a Support account.
