On a serious note: I agree with you
This is probably just a way for VALVe to put less stress on their systems rather than dumping all that yacht money into them. Or perhaps it's a precursor to something more sinister they have planned...kinda like WoW's 3.0.1 LFG system. Boy did that turn into a f***ing disaster when Cata released. Or it could just be because of exchange rates or game pricing being manipulated by VALVe.
No, you're not. Just ask people about the bitcoin fiasco. It's not about "volatile price fluctuations", it's about depopularizing a GROWING currency that global banking cartels have no control over.
At this point, I'm sure VALVe will do anything for a buck, no matter who waves it at them. Which will be to their dismay when the only games they'll be hosting are "AAA" titles (more like big-budget wastes of time) because all the standalone developers moved to a different platform. Which will then be bought out by VALVe in much the same way Google bought out Vidme.
[edit]: Agreed with the pricing thing, but I think it'll be more so VALVe themselves can set the exchange rate on any game they feel like. Yet another step toward corporate dystopia. Wew, first the new review system, then the bitcoin issue, and now this bulls***. WEEEEEW.
Correct me if im wrong but isn't it illegal or really sketch to be messing with the prices of games from other devlopers and to also mess with exchange rate? Like they've gotta be violating some sort of world laws when it comes to exchange rates and stuff, cause as I said it only makes sense to pick a base rate and then if a currency is more or less they have to pay more or less to meet the base... so like isn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with that going against some sort of law, it has to be??
I also noticed their gift card system only takes from direct payments and id use the gift cards but I don't have a paypal... let me pay from the wallet dammit... but it also says it puts the equlivlant of what you picked into the recivers account... so like I pay $3 USD for $5 Canadian, and the user I send it to in the states gets $5 USD for the price of $3...
This is so broken and they're gonna get their asses sued...
1000 vs 5 looks like a rip off and a problem
however considering they are both actually $5 is not a problem.
CS:GO for example.

Buying in the US = 10.04USD
Buying in Canada = 11.38CDN
11.38CDN = 8.85USD. It's not just a currency conversion. According the that site's calculator, you're paying 11.82% less than I am if we were paying in the same currencies.
Except that's not how it works. If you pay 5CND, they will get 3.89USD. Or 67.11 Argentinian Pesos. Or however much the current exchange rate is for which ever currency they use.
It sure as hell doesn't seem that way, and they are very crypid about it like as it was worded for the gift cards i was under the impression of my original statement where you' be getting more for less
Also, most games SHOULD be the same price accounting for exchange if they're not well that's just the devlopers choice but im suddenly running into like every damn game on steam has regional price differences? Doubt it.
Also still doesnt change the major flaw they do not display warnings for regional price until youve already wasted time in the checkout unlike having it from the get-go with region locked games. And there's still the isse of "wtf do you do for gifting your friends if you dont have a pay pal" Honestly I think this is still complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
and it is looking more tantalizing than ever lately.
Sad that I've not thought that way in probably 10 years..
All of a sudden it is one mechanism of control after another.
I still say that Valve sold out long ago.. and the new owners do not give a rats hoot about games.. nor the gamers..
Probably so and its just so stupid how they set the new system up, and there was no need for it, the only "friction" i saw with the old system was region locked games and thats on the buyers fault cause it does tell you about region lock when you buy it.
And i wouldn't even be here ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if they'd let me send money via steam wallet instead of directly through pay pal
Which also conercns me that if i send it to the usd its gonna charge me more canadian if its mean to give $5 usd if I pick $5 cnd.
Well.. not sure what is going to change.. unless Valve gets kicked in the money wad, and hard.
I'm sure they are just going to keep going down the same dark path they currently are travelling on.
They will also always say.. ' hackers'.. 'scammers'.. and well.. just like the software developers cry 'pirates' 'theives' when they stamp their feet, it still seems like the same ole round.
Sad, that after all these years.. the net still seems to be a free-for-all for business to do as they like when they like..
Also it seems like a lot of developers are starting to flex their 'greed' muscle as of late with some really strange tactics.
Not sure what can be done about it though.
I suppose nothing can be done about it aside from choosing to bycott but Im too invested in PC games and fun games to do that myself, as alot of other users are too so i gues we just keep ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and hope for the best and suck it up....
It still is really stupid though. Regional prices... I don't care if i have to pay a little bit more, let me send gifts to my friends.
At least if you're planning on gifting let us like, switch the store to american and stuff like that so its bought there for the usd price and then gifted to friend.
I agree.. I would not mind that kind of system. If that is the way they want it.. It seems, though, that Valve wants to do what it wants.. no matter what..
Problem is.. what valve wants is green.. and it seems they will do just about anything to get that color.
Not sure a boycott would work, as you said, most of us are much to invested to bite the hand that feeds it.
I mean really.. what a damocles sword hanging over our heads. "Our company gets sunk, your games get the Davy Jones treatment... <blub> <blub>"
I sure they know it .. they got us by the money wad, and are holding the 'codes' we buy hostage to whatever whim they feel like entertaining that day.
Too bad really.
Yeah, i just hope we're wrong about all of this and the system is just buggy cause its new and they do fix it and put in some sort of work around thats easier than the cards,
Doubt that each game has prices for all of those currencies? They're supposed to. If a Dev/Publisher doesn't set a price it renders the game unsaleable in that region. I've heard that Valve offers a tool that will recommend the price for all the regions, but I'm not a dev so I have very little info regarding that tool.
Doubt that the price recommendation tool actually reflects the real world? From my recollection, that's pretty much the thrust of discussion regarding the recent addition of the Israeli new shekel.

Credit/debit cards, PayPal, Visa Electron, paysafecard, Sofortüberweisung / DIRECTebanking.com, iDeal, WebMoney
The Credit/Debit cards cover the prepaid variety as well as the more standard issued variety.
If you don't have any of the supported methods of payment, then you're largely screwed. You could purchase a physical gift card and send them the code to redeem, but it does require finding a store that sells them and it lacks the granularity you can achieve using the digital gift cards.
Steam ♥♥♥♥♥♥ a large majority of their users. That's all im getting from this.
