[SOLVED]Computer Crashes/Freezes or Locks up when downloading a game.
I am very curious about my computer crashing when downloading a large game in this case was DOOM (2016) the size of the download was about 58GB and my computer crashed around the 26GB mark. But when i download a game with a download of 20 GB it does not crash and completes the download. If any one knows what is going on please help me try to find a solution thank you. :steamhappy:

How do you mean "With less memory"? You took out a RAM module?

And how did your PC crash exactly? Hard freeze, blue screen etc..

If you indeed took out a RAM module and that fixed your crashing issue it might be dead. Plug it back in and test it with memtest86.

Sorry about that what i meant to say was the other games i have downloaded the size of the game is smaller than DOOM.

I highly doubt there is a link between the download size and your computer crashing.

How does it crash exactly?

The light that represesnts the Hard drive Activity Light usally blinks but when it crashes it stays solid. Also the program starts to slow down if i click on a link it will not open then the mouse starts to lag and freeze for a moment and it all repeats until the screen goes black.

If merely downloading a game can somehow 'crash' your PC, there has gotta be way bigger issues going on.

Can you post your system specs?
check that target drive is enough for steam temporary download files and actual game installation size. i.e. if a game is 58GB, maybe you need about 2x free disk space for the installation.

+1 or is using enough space to encounter a sector error on your hard drive run checkdisk would be my guess one of these two

for it is a freeze, i say: RAM, Motherboard or HDD/SDD. first test would be a RAM test.
btw do you know "prime 95" benchmark test. you can stress your pc, but the gfx board, very much...and research whats wrong with your pc...

I did not know that, thank you. I will test as soon as I get home.
i think 128GB system drive + some apps/games is too little.

location of your steam games? i think there is problem in your external drive if you are saving steam games there.

I am saving my steam games to my External Hard drive.

One method that was mention is to uninstall the network adapter drives and reinstall them.

Is there Anything else that could be related to the problem ?
