I can hear myself in my headset. pls help

So today I was on discord and my mic would not activate. I messed around with the settings in control panel and I figured out they could only hear me when "listen to this device" is turned on. Problem is that I can hear myself when I have that on. Anyone know how to fix this?

In the playback, and recording you only want your headset & Mic to be active, and set as default. For discord you want to go onto the settings, go into audio settings, and make sure both out, and in puts are set to your headset & Mic, you also may have to reset your discord client, or browser.

Disable "listen to device in your" in the recording settings.

For the one lad who finds this, if people hear themselves from you, go to Win / Sys 32 / mmsys dot cpl - it's the old sound setup menu. Go to "recording", make sure both "microphone" and "stereo mix" are enabled, then make "microphone default". You can disable everything else. Stereo Mix is basically what you can hear but rerouted as a "virtual microphone" of sorts. If you don't have that enabled, all that chatter will flow back into your enabled device, which is your microfone.

TL/DR: Win / Sys 32 / mmsys dot cpl , enable Stereo Mix. Use Microphone as the recording device in Discord.
