Steam Game Shortcuts Not Working (Win10)
A few days ago, all my steam desktop shotcuts turned into the generic white file icon, and when you try to use them, they open the "How do you want to open this file?" box, asking me to select a program.

I know how to change the icon to what I want, but I can't get it to associate with steam. If I choose a default program, it'll associate all .url files with Steam, and I don't want that.

I've deleted the shortcut, verified the game files, and recreated the shortcut via steam to no avail. I notice in the properties, it no longer has the 'steam://' hyperlink, nor is the area there to edit it anymore.

What gives? How do I fix this?

Don't know if you found an answer yet. But seems you just have to re-associate the shortcuts with your browser. Settings>Apps>Default Apps>Choose Default apps by file type>> Find URL and associate it with internet browser.

as per the instructions in this thread http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/1496741765128215875/

I was having the same issue, worked first thing for me.

Yep, that did it! Thanks! To all those who read this later, the program you associate .urls to is literally "Internet Browser". Not Chrome, not Edge... "Internet Browser".
