directx and ancient laptops
So imma begin with that i have a laptop that's made in long way back year 2001. It's specs are worse than Huawei phones (surprisingly) and it's performance is very low by today standarts BUT as i got it to run minecraft (best game i have made it to run so far) i want to step it up big.

Can i run Directx7 games without it or with even lower directx?
That is one quesiton i never seem to understand the answer for so i would love if someone knew.
If anybody knows i would like link to tutorial or just copy-paste it there in comments as my wish now is to get CS:S, Gmod or Half Life 2 to run. FPS is not a problem, i know that i will have more like slideshow than a game but i want to make it run for fun.

if not then...

Maybe list specs?

Yep, sure!
Packard Bell EasyNote E2

*Windows XP Proffesional 32 bit

Processor-
Intel Pentium M

RAM-
2 GB DDR 177mhz

Motherboard-
NEC COMPUTERS INTERNATIONAL Rhea B

Graphics-
Digital Flat Panel (idk if it's even a video card)
Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller (Packard Bell B.V.)

Storage-
74gb Toshiba

Optical drive-
Matshita DVD/CDRW

Audio-
Realtek AC'97 Audio

If you have suggestions for good games that could run on those specs, also minding that it's a laptop, please leave them down in comments as i would love to test them. :D

And no, it CAN'T run Crysis nor GTA:VC.

Windows XP will run games using DirectX 9 or lower.

The main issue you are having is probably that your GPU is not supported by those games.

well the gpu i have doesn't support even directx7 as i can't run CS:S on it. :(

Maybe i can somehow get it to run without it with some emulating apps or something?
If an OS + GPU supports a certain DirectX / OpenGL; it supports all the versions below that.
They never bother to list this because it's common sense that it works this way.

well in that case- why css doesn't even launch on my laptop? if it supports it then why doesn't it launch at all?
That the OS supports it does not mean the hardware does.

The Intel 82825 does not have any shader support.
Which means, that any game requiring any kind of shader technology will not run.
CS:S does require shader support.
Yea for Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics you can basically forget Game support, just don't even bother, it's a waste to even try since it's been legacy long before Win7 even came along.

So there is no way i could make games like css run?
NO, GPU is way too old.

You're way overdue for a newer gen Laptop/Desktop.

I have no plans of getting new laptop as i have my main gaming rig, the laptop was first pc i have had and i just found it in my home and wanted to do some fun stuff with it.

Also i did little research, maybe this "swift shader" app can do something? Says that it can make games run without need of shader model.
It does that by emulating those shaders on your CPU. Which is not really a solution as emulation is a very slow and error-prone process.
The CPU is already weak, adding the task to take over work for the GPU will only make matters worse.
Yes, the game may launch with SwiftShaders, but expect abysmal performance due to a bogged down CPU and a generally slow videochip and rendering errors on top.

Definetely will test it, my mission is to make it run, not playable but at least open it and run the gameplay.

Minecraft on this poor guy runs with 60fps on flat with no blocks placed, any interaction with world will lower fps drastically. On normal, random world it goes around 30-5fps i'd say. It's pretty playable if you look at the specs used to run it. Sadly (or maybe not) Minecraft is the only game i have got to run on this ancient THING.
It CANT run, that Laptop is not suitable for anything in this modern age, period.
I wouldn't even suggest Grandma use it for Flash games.

Happy Wheels did a good job- 5fps haha, sometimes 10fps and i had everything turned down to lowest.
You did update the directx to as far as it will allow?
Theres an old OpenGL setup file you should also have at least from win98se to xp.

Youre probably looking at DOOM and the like to run on that, if.
Old flight games or dungeon crawlers, those were popular on those things, normal people couldnt get their head around technically and so was left to the 80s nerds.
Anything 256 colours should be ok or even force 256 colour if possible.
Talk about a challenge
