Steam claims I played 'Spacewar' for 11 hours ? (Solved was Virtual Desktop!)
Hi,

EDIT: It seems launching Virtual Desktop outside of steam directly through the exe causes Steam to recognize it as Spacewar ! Strangely enough it does not appear in ExecutedProgramsList but the issue is resolved !

I hope this is the right place. So I just went on my Steam account and saw I was supposedly playing a game called Spacewar last on November 28th and then today.

However I have not played any game since the 24th as is correctly shown in my activities.
(Also no external games at all). I have read that pirated games show up as Spacewar but I have never pirated a game in my life. The only other platform I use for Games besides Steam is GoG.

As I understood the application needs to use Steamworks for Spacewar to show up as beeing played?

Could I have been hacked ? Or could this be a bug in Steam ?
I used ExecutedProgramsList to view the Programs I used today:

firefox.exe
chrome.exe
OculusClient.exe
OVRLIBRARIAN.EXE
mbam.exe (Malwarebytes)
calibre.exe
EventGhost.exe
Discord.exe
Steam.exe

I checked my Email account but I guess if it was also hacked mails would have been deleted.
However I think my account would have been fully stolen if that were the case.

Does anybody know more about this ? I am getting really worried :(

Thanks in advance.

You got an oculus? Sure you didn't use some tool or something to get it to work on some Steam game? Oculus is potentially a game platform that you forgot to mention.

Googling for "oculus spacewar" gets you some results that some hacks use that thing with steam sometimes..
Maybe fiddling with unreal engine?

spacewar is a f2p game anyone can add to their account using " steam://run/480 " in either windows run or in steam's own console. (which you enable with -console on launch parameter for steam, and then run 480) If you haven't accessed your account or played this game however, you may want to deauthorize other devices and change your password immediately, run scans for malware/etc. There's nothing wrong with Spacewar, Infact those same people could do the same thing to codename gordon, or any other game on steam.

Well the only thing I used so far is RealHeadMotion for Assetto Corsa but that was on Nov 14th if the Steam activities are to be believed .

And the last time I used my Oculus was on the 24th, otherwise it was just the Oculus Software on autostart but thanks for the suggestion I will look into that a little more.

Edit: I have changed my pw for steam and have run multiple malware checks already, will set up an email on another to automatically forward Security alerts from my other mail adresses to. Then change all those passwords too.

Spacewar also shows up if you play pirated Steam games.

I bet it's something on your PC.

Try doing something you have done recently and see if the the blue frame for you avatar in Steam turns green (steam thinks you are playing a game)

You could try to search your event log for "spacewar" or "steam://run/480"

I have opened every program I could find on my pc nothing triggered the green frame.
Also my event log (I suspect you mean the windows event viewer) is empty of spacewar or steam://run/480.

I should not have changed my pw immediately because now I cannot see whether there was another authorized system that wasn't supposed to be there :(

If you're worried you might been hacked then you can check here: haveibeenpwned.com

Sounds like a weird thing to hack someone for, also you earned an achievement for the thing..
Feels like some software test thing that went wrong.
The oculus store runs in the background right? Does it auto update the apps also? Maybe one new update did it somehow.

That might be it. I struggle to find any other explanation than some software having experimental Steamworks implemented and causing this. The Achivement is strange though, I have never even heard of the game before this. And would some software test cause achivements to be unlocked ?

The Email has been pwned two times but as I changed my pw for those sites back then and also have different pws for every account I own this seems highly unlikely.
Also what would it accomplish ? Instead of letting a pirated game or actual spacewar run they could have stolen my account or done even worse things which so far did not happen.Iit just does not make any sense...

I found it!

If I open VirtualDesktop through its exe which I recently placed as a Shortcut on my desktop after steam had trouble launching it it shows as Spacewar !
I completely forgot about that and it does not show in the ExecutedProgramsList. And when I tried it earlier I launched through steam.

Sorry for the trouble but if anyone has a similar issue I guess it might help, will edit the start post.
