Thanks Vlad! That works for installing Steam, and it will even update itself successfully and it seems to log me in fine; with a couple of minor error messages. However, it is unable to actually to the initial data retrieval of my account, so it just errors out and quits. I suspect they do some stuff in the registry that's outside the user area, so it gets stopped in its tracks.
But it was fun to try!
For the curious: I got handed a locked down PC that I simply cannot get administrator rights for. Regardless, I would like to play the occasional game on it. Oh well, I'll have to check out the DRM free titles I have on GOG. Some of those should work.
If you want to hack into admin account or grant youself admin rights, add and pm me, i'll try to help you.
As for the whole thread, getting the client to run without admin rights is pointless, since virtually every game will want to run Visual C/DirectX or their own installers which all need admin rights to run properly. And everything else you can do within the client, you can also do in a browser.
DRM is only of the many hurdles.
Sure, talk to the admin guys.
