Insane lag only while playing with a certain friend.
I never have ping issues with steam on any game usually, but whenever i play with one of my friends in particular I have 1500+ ping if he's hosting he has 1500+ ping if i'm hosting if we can connect at all. We live in the same city and it's not an issue of bad internet because we can connect to other people just fine. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Well, what ISP are you guys on? The same, maybe?

We are on the same ISP, could that be causing issue? I don't see how

Well, it really is incredible, but certain ISPs have routing problems between own clients. They can route packets into the internet just fine, but not between clients. I suggest you bug your ISPs customer service.

I might try that but i don't have that issue with other friends who live in the same city and have the same isp, unless it's just and issue between our clients.

Does the problem appear in other games?
Durgen Mage Oct 11, 2017 @ 12:25am
it's in any game that uses P2P instead of dedicated servers.

Ah, that's an important aspect! That means that BOTH of you have specific issues hat require the network protocol to work around. The workaround works just fine if one of you connect to an unaffected session and faiks if it needs to worm around both ways.

Tue solution is simple: Both of you should forward the appropriate ports. This way, both of you will become full workaround-free members of the P2P game session.

Well, simple in theory. Port forwarding can be intimidating the first time.

If you want,I an provide further explanation about that port stuff.

i have all the common ports that games use open as i often host games sessions for friends when the games don't have dedicated servers/matchmaking. I will have to have him open up those ports and see if that solves the issue

Hey I know little about port fowarding, and I want to play with my friend that I have bad connection, to play with better ping do I need to foward the game ports or "his" ports (if such thing even exist)?

The answer to this particular question depends on the game.

It's Borderlands 3

Ask in that games own forum, don’t resurrect years old, slightly related threads...
