How to change Steam Save File location?
This is most likely a stupid question but, I primarily play my games off a external hard drive but the save files tend to be from the Steam Cloud however not all games support Steam Cloud so I was wondering if I could change the location of the save files to the external hard drive.

Basically I want the installs and save files to all be on the external hard drive.

You cant.
Each game have different game save location.
Most of the game put their save files on
Steam>userdata(numbers)>gameID
What inside are screenshot/config and sometimes save files.

Well, there is no standard location for save files--each game decides where to save its own files, and this can vary widely. Sometimes they create subdirectories under your 'Documents' folder, some under 'AppData', and a few even use the registry (I'm speaking about Windows OS in this case). So I don't believe you'll be able to accomplish what you're asking about.

At the very least, you might find a partial solution by using the very helpful (and free) utility, "Game Save Manager" to help you organize, back up, and generally get something of a handle on your save files. Go ahead and give it a try if you haven't already.

Hope this helps.
You would have to relocate your My Documents folder to the external drive, and possibly other locations too.

Windows can do this, but it isn't intuitive or self explanatory.

As mentioned above, Hardware Girl, this isn't going to be of much help, since very few games (or some indeterminate amount) use that location for their save files in the first place.

Because of an unfortunate lack of standards in this department, one can end up with save files scattered all over their hard drive.
You can edit the User Profile local and localLow and other registry hives to do it.

It's just beyond the scope of sane discussion IMHO.
