For example, the actual branded Sony DS4 wireless BT adapter.
Overall, since you're on a Laptop, seriously just use the USB cable, why would you go wireless when you're literally less then arms length from the PC.
My reason for wanting to go wireless is that I typically hook up my laptop to my tv screen with hdmi, and I'd like to sit on the couch to play. I don't have the length of cable to do that.
Basically, you're saying the problem is coming from the integrated BT in my laptop and I need to buy a specific bluetooth adapter? The controller does connect properly in the windows 10 settings menu. It installs the drivers and comes up as connected and everything. Does that not mean the controller is compatible with my computer's BT?
Is there some way to confirm that that is the problem before I drop $30 on Sony's adapter? It sort of sucks to have to buy an expensive BT adapter for a computer that already has BT capability...
> Connect the Controller via BT
> Check the Controller is all working properly via WINKEY+R > type JOY.CPL > click OK
> Check everything there.
> Load up Steam Client > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings
> Un-check all boxes except for Generic. When done making those changes, close out BPM.
> Restart Steam Client and then re-check that the Controller is working.
When I connect my controller to the PC with bluetooth and use the JOY.CPL command, I am able to verify that everything is working properly: the joysticks and the buttons all work in the "Game Controllers" menu. However, as soon as I launch steam, even before going into BPM, all the buttons stop working in the Game Controllers menu. The status still appears as "OK" but none of the buttons register in the properties window.
With the game controllers menu running though, when I go into BPM, the controller shows up and it works just fine! Crazy.
Thank you so much for your help Bad_Motha. I hope this thread helps others who are having trouble getting their ps4 controller to work on steam with bluetooth.
Create your own thread post explaining your problems in detail. If you really have similair issues, you can fix the issue by reading Alex's last post.
You also necro'ed a year old post.
My controller was detected & xbox360 emulated in windows but not in game,
"> Check the Controller is all working properly via WINKEY+R > type JOY.CPL"
the problem was solved by changing the default value of "Use Xinputs Ports" in Settings from ds4
Enjoy necro :p
