d3dx9_41.dll missing from computer - game launch fails
Hi all, I'm new to Steam and really appreciate any help! Installed a cheap LEGO game as a test to see if my system worked, and alas it does not. I'm running Windows 7, but I have updated DirectX as far as I can. I've tried isolating the specific DirectX file and inserting it into the LEGO file, and that just changes the error message to "XAPOFX1_3.dll" error, so I'm obviously missing something somewhere. I also went back into previous discussions here and found some recommended going into the game files and running DirectXsetup.exe from the support folder, but I have no support folder so I'm a bit lost! I've no idea how to get the game to successfully launch. Any help/guidance greatly appreciated!

Of course they will! You however need to install the runtimes that came with the game, you seem to have omitted that step for some reason.

Good idea if you want to get malware.

Thanks, I was trying to avoid downloading random files from dodgy corners of the internet!
(Sorry for my lack of knowledge here) but what are the runtimes that come with the game?

Don't just repeat words, understanding is way better than repeating! Verify the local game content, that should tell Steam to start the download process again.
Also, is your graphics driver up-to-date?

I've just checked and my graphics driver is up to date, and I've just started to verify the local game content. Is that just going to essentially re-download the game files?

No. That's going to CHECK the game files and download the missing ones. Also, it tends to trigger Steam to install the runtimes again when you start the game the next time. You of course have to allow this to happen.

It's finished doing it's thing, said all files are verified, shall I restart the system? Or can I just give it a go? (Once again apologies for the basic questions)

No, just start the game. And when UAC asks you if you want to allow Steam to make changes to the computer, allow it.

No luck :( still failing to launch.

I'm now trying this - currently running a DirectX websetup file directly from microsoft and hoping nothing goes too horribly wrong!

Then open the game folder (you can do it from Steam) and look for the missing runtime installers there. If you want, you can give me a list of folders that are there and I could tell you. Typically, that stuff is in "redist".

No need - the DirectX web setup thingy worked! Thank you so much for all your help! I am forever grateful, I spent days on this with absolutely no luck!
