Steam Guard Mobile App on Chromebook
Hello!

I would like to start trading, but I do not own a smartphone, I have a Chromebook and a PC. I would like to get the app on the Chromebook, for personal convenience. Any ideas?

Thanks!

The app is android and iPhone only.
I have heard of a way to get Android apps onto Chromebook, and I even know of an application for Windows.
This what you can do.

1st. Get a virtual number or google voice number.

2nd. Download a emulator like "BlueStacks" or "Memu". I strongly recommend "Bluestacks" though.

3rd. Download the steam guard mobile app.

4th. If you still need help, send me a message.

Yup; Android or iOS Mobile only for Steam Mobile App.

Chrome and Windows have their own App store; to which Devs are not really supporting; so best bet is avoid those devices. New York City Police are having to now get rid of $4 Million worth of useless (obsolete) Windows Phones they purchased not long ago for LEOs.

So yea stay away from those devices.

A good quality Android Tablet is much better then anything Chromebook.
Chromebooks are NOT cheap; going with a Laptop style, you're better off getting a newer gen sub-$500 Windows 10 Laptop instead.

May be possible if your chromebook is running on a ARM processor to get the app to run natively. Otherwise you will have to use a emulator or wrapper. I don't know if the Steam app requires a phone number to be linked to and stuff like that. So it may be impossible to get the app fully functional on the Chromebook. Also Chrome OS is like MAC OS, glued shut, nothing is accessible to the user. Install another flavour of Linux on the machine and it may work.

But I say don't bother it is probably impossible to do.

I have Linux (Ubuntu) already installed on the Chromebook. Will that help?

Chrome OS supports both ARM and x86.
Ok, maybe link up with NightWeilder
Seems to know what he/she are really talking about that could better help you.

But yea if it's Intel x86/x64 based with Linux or Windows OS; you shouldn't have any issues.
It just wouldn't work (to best of my knowledge) under Chromium OS

^This.

Visit Walmart, Amazon, Newegg, BestBuy, etc.... Find a cheap pre-paid phone, goes like $20 - $40 for one, but if you already got a phone, and you have a tablet, using Android/Apple OS, then you can just download the steam mobile authenticator on the tablet, and link it that way with your flip phone or whatever you have as they will be sending you a text message, to confirm, that's about it.

Also write down your recovery code from the steam mobile authenticator, if you ever have accident / issues, which you need the recovery code if you want to remove it from your account.

That is why OP need to run the Steam app on a emulator. Linux has lots of those.

But I doubt you could make something like this work.

I wouldn't advise using emulated phone apps, especially when it comes to authenticators.

So do I.
Yes, Emu's tend to have backdoor malware/adware that leak your info through them back to the creator's. With something like an authentication apps, you could feed all of your login info right to such people. By the time you realize if anything is wrong, it could be too late and you're locked out of your account; not just Steam but Email too.
