What is/How do you become a curator?
My understanding of what a curator does, is that they are users who give exceptional reviews for games and so are made “curators” of the content that is put out there. Is this right?

And if so, if I eventually became good at reviewing games, how would I become a curator? (I’m not at that level yet, but I want to set a goal to become better if possible.)

*Edit* also, can I delete a review I made if I progress further into the game and find new things that make me want to change it? Or can I simply edit it whenever I choose?

You need to be the owner of a group.

You set the group settings page, there is a curator tab that you can add the description. From there you can recommend games to people.

Once you've recommended 10 items, you appear in the curators page.

No special permissions, or requirements needed.

Hey there.

On steam there are 2 ways of being a curator. You can write reviews through your own profile, or you can write reviews through a group you own, or have permissions to curate.

Curating through your Profile.

  • You must own the game. Steam does not allow you to review a game you do not own.
  • You can then go to your library and click the game you desire, and select write review
  • From there you write the review, etc.

Curating through a Steam Group.

  • You can review any game through a Steam group. However, you must review 10 games before you reviews show on the store page. Before 10 reviews, the group reviews will only be seen via the group curator page or just above the comments.
  • Go to the group and in the tabs where you choose discussions, announcements, etc, go to curator and select create new review.
  • With group curating, you are given a word limit, as you are meant to make it eye catching and short. If you wish to expand on it, you can write as much as you want in a steam discussion on the group, or on a website, and then link it in the option provided.

You are able to delete reviews, and edit them. However, I do suggest reviewing your own review before posting it.

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I wanted to know. Of course I will proofread all my reviews. I wrote my first one yesterday, but I feel I can improve by a lot. I think I have a tendency to only review games I feel very positively about, and have difficulty finding fault so I’m going to watch myself on that.

Glad to know I can throw that one away once I have more experience with the game. I also think I’ll finish games before reviewing them (duh)

But sometimes I’d like to review what I already know from my limited experience. I’ll continue to learn!

Glad to hear you're already diving head first into it. Send me a friend request and I'll review anything you write if you want extra proof reading. Happy to help out where I can.
Can anyone in the group make a review?

You can still make personal reviews to your own profile. It depends on the group settings who can be a Curator.

I'm always happy to have my reviews reviewed on the basis of constructive criticism if need be. I would love to be a curator one day too but I guess that's up to others decide if/when necessary. It was the same when I was a moderator on a few Twitch channels. I was advised those who asked didn't become one but then word got out I was good and I ended up on 3 channels lol.
