Microsoft Xbox One Controller not detected by Steam. How to solve this problem?
Hello!

I recently purchased a Microsoft Xbox One S Controller. It is not recognised by Steam, and doesn't work with my Steam Games. But it works properly with other games. I've tried different ways (Such as updating it's Drivers, connecting using a Micro-USB Cable, connecting via Bluetooth, using TocaEdit Xbox 360 Controller Emulator and restarting Steam/Windows/Controller), but nothing solved it.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

About the controller.

Connect it via cable and update the firmware. Also, disable Steam's input mapper for XInput gamepads, that enabled-by-default-feature actively prevents Steam games from using the gamepad if active (and not configured).

ReBoot, how do I disable Steam's Input Mapper?

From Steam settings, the most logical place.

ReBoot, I've checked Steam's settings. But there is no such option. And I think that will only appear, if a game controller is detected. But in my case, the controller is detected by Windows and other games, but not by Steam or Steam Games. It shows "No Controllers Detected" in General Controller Settings menu.

Well, if you're missing the XBox configuration support checkbox, then your Steam install is screwed royally. Before we get to repair your Steam install, are you sure it's missing or have you just not found it? Where have you looked?

ReBoot, yes "Xbox Configuration Support" check box is there. I tried toggling that too, but it didn't work.

I solved the problem. And here's my case.

I have a Generic Game Controller called "Quantum Double Vibration Game Controller". I play all my game using it. The Hardware Drivers of the Generic Game Controller weren't proper. So, I configured it in such a way that the games detect it as a Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller. For that, I installed and configured the game controller using "TocaEdit Xbox 360 Controller Emulator" and "Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories". As a result, Windows (Including Steam) started to recognise any game controller as an Xbox 360 Controller. When I connected my Xbox One controller, Steam got confused.

So, here's how I solved it...
(1) Disconnect Xbox One and Generic Game Controller
(2) Uninstall Generic Game Controller's Hardware Drivers
(3) Uninstall "Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories"
(4) Reset "TocaEdit Xbox 360 Controller Emulator" to default settings
(5) Reinstall Steam
(6) Start Steam in Online Mode
(7) Sign In to Steam
(8) Reconnect Xbox One Controller
(9) Register Xbox One Controller in General Controller Settings
(10) Enable "Xbox Configuration Support"
(Optional) Configure the controller for Steam Games, Big Picture, Desktop and Steam Button Chord.

If I'm right, the Generic Game Controller was kind of "Over" configured. Removing it solved the problem.

Well its more easy: 1. got to desktop config for your controller and check if the button's are correct. 2. Got to the game on steam and right click it then go to propeties and find in on the first tab your controller input then disable that (forced off)

Thank you! I had this exact issue and your comment is the only thing that finally worked!

In task manager, under the services tab, I found XboxGipService; Xbox accessory Management service was stopped. I started it and that's how I fixed my issue

You don't need to download any software for Xbox controllers. Most games support them by default. Try reconnecting the controller.
