PC Fan keeps surging - only while Steam is running
over the last couple days i've noticed an annoying trend: my pc fan would, from the time I logged in to my computer to the time i shut it down, surge the pc fan every 2 seconds. It would run on high, then back to low, then back to high, then back to low....over and over and over and over. All day. It would sound like somebody's starting and shutting off a vaccuum.

It would happen if I'm sitting at desktop, or playing videos, or playing games.

If i'm playing games, the temperature inside the case would be between 30-35 degrees. If I'm sitting at desktop, the temp is around 25-30. Room temp is around 20-23. The fan is always surging.

It wasn't until I shut down the Steam program that I noticed the fan would stop. So I opened Steam, and the fan began surging again. I shut down Steam and would open other programs (Origin, Blizzard, I even opened a video call on Skype while playing Diablo 3) and the fan remained silent.

Currently getting ready for work, but when I return this afternoon I should be able to post any requested machine specs (i'll need instructions on how to find any requested specs or data).

Hopefully in the meantime, somebody can come up with an idea about why or how this happens.

Install

Restart computer.
Profit.

I in no way condone this as a long term solution, but hopefully it'll get fixed.

EDIT: Had wrong link up, new one is for Windows 10.

Same problem here. Alienware machine; if Steam is running my fans spin up and down like clockwork.

Yes, I have an AW rig, but restarting does nothing.

I see no OpenGL_Program.exe in the task manager.

Hi guys, since yesterday I have same fan-spinning problem. Yes, I have an Alienware PC and yes it only happens when you start the Steam client. Exiting the Steam client solves the problem.
Did anyone already log a ticket at the Steam Support desk?

Downloading the Alienware Command Center does not work for me, as I cannot seem to find the correct softwareversion for my specific rig ( 5 years old approx. ) Version 4.5, nor version 4.6 works, or the older version 3.5 - they all refuse to install with an error that this software is not for my Alienware......

Cheers,

Wilfred

During a format some years ago, I lost my installed Command Center. I've been unable to find one I can install, and this link says it's an incorrect version that I can't use.
