Steam Crashing with "Windows Explorer has stopped responding"
Hello everyone!

I've been running into a new issue recently that seemingly happens at random. When I open steam, update a game, or anything that uses the steam UI it will randomly crashing with "Windows Explorer has stopped responding." I cannot task manager my way out of it either. I MUST reset my computer in order to fix the problem.

I have tried:
-Updating ALL drivers (Driver Booster 5 PRO scans and updates all drivers for me to the most recent)
-Uninstalling Steam and reinstalling. Including on different HD's. Right now it's on one of my new SSD's.
-Clean install of windows (recently got a 1070 and did a clean install when I got it)
-other various fixes

As a side note, all games launch and run perfectly fine. Other game clients do not do this (Warframe launcher, uPlay, Origin) and I don't have this issue with any other programs. Below is my hardware layout.

The CPU is overclocked using a program the motherboard has and its a very soft clock at 3.2. I did some trouble shooting and that doesn't seem to be the issue as it does it with base clock as well. RAM is where it should be and not overclocked either.

I'm at a loss here and willing to listen to others and see if anyone has any help!

Thanks everyone,
Dan

I have had a similar issue for the last 6 months or so.... fresh installs do nothing as well, access denied when trying to end steam in task manager. I actually thought it had something to do with my 4tb hdd (which is use for steam games and other junk) going to sleep or something?

I know this thread is old.

Run Memtest86 to check the RAM.
