To output 1080p content at 144Hz, you typically use a dual link DVI-D cable or DisplayPort cable. You can also use a HDMI 1.3 or higher cable. ... Contrary to popular belief, a standard HDMI 1.2 cable can not be used to output 144Hz 1080p content on a monitor.

Google works for me just fine...

Depends on the resolution. Technically HMDI can do 144Hz, but only on lower resolutions. You also won't have access to G-Sync or FreeSync if your monitor has it.
So, use Displayport.

Next time, post such threads in the Hardware & Operating System section.

Not sure if HDMI and do 144hz thought support does depend on the monitor. I have 2 monitors running @144hz.
One uses DVI and the other DP. I know the one that uses DVI doesn't support 144hz via HDMI not sure about the other. Best thing is to check with your monitor specs/manual.

FYI probably better placed in the hardware section
