Steam so slow and unstable download
Why is the download speed so slow? My download oscillates between 500kb / second to 11mb / second while I downloaded leagues of legend in the space of 5min ..

My connection is fixed, connected in ethernet, my speed is 30mb / sec.

Why is steam downloading so unstable?

In addition there are always cuts, the download stops every 30 seconds then it resumes. I currently download csgo with 500kb / second!

Thank you for your help and your return,

Cordially.

Hmm.. there's a lot of factors that plays into this so we have to do the process of elimination.

Are you connected to the internet using network cable or just with WiFi?

I use an ethernet cable, my wifi is disabled. I have the optical fiber.

Since you're using an ethernet cable.. it might be your network resources not allocated properly.

Possibly multi tasking too much in the background? Downloading multiple updates from different softwares or streaming online while you're on it?

The #1 people complain about download speeds is due to one thing

Your hard drive

Steam patching is very IO itnensive. As such it doesn't matter how fast the download is, if your disk is trying to write 50GB of data.

When you see 'slow' download speeds check your IO on your disk. Not the write speed. The actual IO and %active time on your disk drive. Chances are your drive is 100% busy because its writing out the file, and for good measure your anti-virus is probably destroying the IO by scanning the file constantly too

The whole of my connection is allocated to the download on steam to close all the possibilities, the problem does not come from my Internet access provider because my speed of download never moves, it is always with 30mb / sec minimum.

My download speed is 30mb / sec, and this from everywhere. Only on steam, my speed always oscillates between 500kb to 15mb maximum, without counting the breaks of the download every 30 seconds.

I should download a game like csgo in 1min, on steam it's 2 hours. I just downloaded leagues of legend in the space of 5min.

My connection is perfect and my internet configuration is perfect, the problem comes clearly from steam.

It might be related to the Steam's server's download region.

Check if its set to your country or nearest country if its not listed there.

Top left corner of your Steam Client > Steam >Settings > Downloads > Download Region > Country

If that doesn't solve the issue, Try CLEAR DOWNLOAD CACHE
(Clearing the download cache might resolve issue downloading or starting apps)

Its still located at the Downloads section.

The cache seems to have no effect, on the other hand I have to change countries completely regarding the download servers, and the situation is much better o_o! I turn to 27mb / sec for h1z1. It would seem that the servers region is definitely the problem. I will perform different test to determine which is the most stable and performing.

A big thank you for your help, professionalism and the time you gave me Waryth!

I wish you a good evening.

Quick update as the issue still occurs.

Changing download servers is still a way to go.
Ironically I swapped from my regional server to other (bigger) city in my country, and it does seem to work better now. Outages still occur but are far more rare.
I guess it's a gamble until you find the best one for you.
