All My Games are Notepad++ Files

All My Games are Notepad++ Files

So I was trying to launch Rainbow six siege because that wasn't working, and in the process of trying to get it to launch all my steam games turned into Notepad++ files. Like all the icons are Notepad ++ and all of my games launch as Notepad ++ files. I don't know what to do anymore

Maybe you associated .exe file format files to open using Notepad++.

Try uninstalling said program.

I uninstalled notepad++ and everything is working fine now, except for the fact that all of my icons are not showing up

Update: When I run the game through Steam it's fine, but when I run it through the desktop shortcut, it comes up with "Choose the program you want to open this file:" The recommended program that comes up is "Internet Browser". For now I can just run games off of steam, but I would love it if I could start them through the shortcut.

Just a side note, I'm also pretty sure that at some point in trying to fix Rainbow six I selected Notepad++ as the program I wanted to open the files with, and that is what changed everything, but i'm not sure to be honest.

Look up "rebuild icon cache", maybe that helps. And delete the existing shortcuts, get new ones.

Last Update: All I had to do was check always use the Internet Browser, and they came back. Thanks for everyone trying to help me and my stupidity

THANK YOU JTxyz!!!! That was my problem!
Original Issue: All steam icons changed to notepad text files, even new games.
Cause: We somehow changed the default program to notepad.
Solution: Right Click one of the shortcuts, click open with, set to internet browser
All icons went back to whatever they were before we blew it up.

how did you the check always use internet browser? im not good with gamefile placement and stuff

When I right click one of them and choose to open with internet browser, the only option there is to do it "only this time". What am I doing wrong?
