Help: Adding a controller D-Pad not mapping correctly
Big Picture>Settings>Controller-Controller Settings>Detected Controllers (the one I am trying to configure)

I am able to map all the face buttons EXCEPT the D-Pad. No matter which direction I press the first direction maps to 'Axis 1' and the second to 'Axis 0'. I am stumped. Does not matter if I press Up first, Down second, Down first, Up second - it always maps Axis 1 to Axis 0. Keep in mind this is a controller with a D-Pad only - it does not have analog sticks..

In Windows Devices>General Controller Settings>Properties>Test I am able to view a centered crosshair and can go in all 8 directions, no problem..

Please help

Windows 10 64bit
Generic USB controller

Have you found a solution to this?

It's been 3 years since your post but I ran into the same problem today and found a solution! Thought I'd share it with you or anyone else who might stumble across the same problem. You need to assign 1 Axis to "Left Stick X" and the other Axis to "Left Stick Y" instead of the DPAD.

Here is how I did it for overcooked:
1. In Steam click on "View" at the top left and go into "Big Picture Mode"
2. Go into "Settings", "Controller Settings" and make sure only the "Generic Gamepad Configuration Support" box is checked
3. Select the "Generic Gamepad" underneath "Detected Controllers" and click "Define Layout"
4. Click "Left Stick X" and press left arrow key on gamepad
5. Click "Left Stick Y" and press up arrow key on gamepad
6. Save Settings
7. Go into your Game Library and select "Overcooked", "Manage Game Options", "Controller Options" and change "Global Setting (Generic) into "Forced On"

How the hell do you do this in the new Big Picture revision? Steam is great, but when it has problems it’s awful. I sometimes wonder if anyone at Valve has ever used a computer..
