Ive been on steam for about 6 months and plugged in a ps4 controller and everything was fine, recently i downloaded Ds4 to play games like Doom and Shadow warror 2 then literally like 2 days ago steam will not recognize i have a ps4 controller plugged in, when i plug it into the computer it makes the usb sound that its plugged in but steam nor will the Ds4 recognize the controller, i have checked to make sure in device managers that gaming controllers are enabled which they are. in the steam big picture mode it shows that the ps4 box is checked but nothing...im confused about this:steamfacepalm:

Maybe you need to reinstall drivers/emulator. I had same problem with DS3.

Sorry for the late response, but I did finally find a solution for this. It was pretty simple, actually. With your controller plugged in, go to Device Manager > libusb-win32, and right click 'Wireless Controller' and choose 'Uninstall'. Also, check the box that says "Delete driver software for this device". This is the part that I had not tried before. Once that finishes, unplug the controller and plug it back in, and after a few seconds, Steam should begin recognizing it. This is what did it for me. Hopefully that helps. Found it /r/Steam Post

i did this, and it worked, but as soon as i restarted steam it stopped recognizing it again, and libusb-win32 is no longer in device manager for me to delete again.

I was having the same problem, make sure that you have DS4 closed completely, Ds4 doesn't close when you exit out of it, go to your system tray, and make sure it is closed. If you have Ds4 on, even if you have it stopped it still converts your controller to a Xbox 360 controller so steam see's the deactivated 360 controller rather than a ps4 controller.

This same issue popped up for me and I had my DS4 plugged into the USB port on my keyboard. In my case the issue was resolved by leaving the controller plugged in then going into "Device Manager" > "Human Interface Devices" then uninstalling "HID-compliant game controller". Scan for hardware changes and then Steam found the controller again.
