how to stop steam from spinning up my hard drive when it starts
I have nothing steam related installed on my hard drive yet every time I open steam I have to listen to the hard drive coming on, it takes longer to open due to to having to wait fro it to spin up and additional unnecessary wear and tear on my drive. I want it to not do that, how do I make it stop?

basically an exact quote in its entirety of my messages to them...

Then at least a recommendation:
Dont rely on a drive which might get in trouble if it spins up.
Keeping drives spinning is less wear than rest and spin.

i'll keep sending support forms but I'm fairly certain this is the only place this is going to be resolved. the closest thing I've found to a solution anywhere is running steam in virtual windows; which is not a solution at all unfortunately

Can I ask why you put your HDD's in sleep mode? As I assume you do, since they start spinning up.

You could use windows functions. Like hide drive from others, and then use steam on the "other".
Just a quick search, so not much more.

i know that but lets say i turn my computer on 10 times in a month and 8 out of those 10 times i dont have a use for those drives so i dont access them is it not better for them to just be off the whole time? and again i cant stress this enough: steam is the ONLY program that makes my computer act this way.(not saying there isnt other programs that do this too, if they do ive never used them.)

as i also said before my drives are dying. right now i only use them for storing my movies there is absolutely nothing else saved to these drives but files associated with video players. so (assuming that not running them at all is healthier than keeping them running all the time simply to stop one program from causing false startups) it seems to me keeping them running just to play games is a huge compromise id rather just resolve.

You will have to keep bothering support then. My only logical explanation would be that when STeam starts it will scan your drives to see if their are any game libraries on it. In fact it is nothing to worry about , if you don't use them that much anyway.

its not just at start-up though it seems to do it randomly too

If the discs are dying, I do hope you're working on replacements if needed. These things can just not turn up one day.

It would scan the library folder to check whether the app manifests are there, so it can see what games are installed or not installed. But you add libraries through the client, so technically it should know where the libraries are. And thusly not need to scan drives it hasn't a library on.

But yeah, Valve is the only one who knows what the program exactly does.

I have no idea , most people now have an SSD with their OS on and one or two extra harddrives. I always keep mine spinning. I wouldn't know why you think that is so bad but if it really bothers you, I doubt anyone here can help you on how the way Steam works.

ps. **TO ANY STEAM EMPLOYEES READING THIS** if you know ?Syntax_Error's assessment to be true: A) state that here, upon reading it. B) instead of just automatically reading all my drives to scan for additional libraries, maybe write a file in the pre-existing directory to tell steam if there is any other libraries and then where they are and have it automatically scan that instead.

You need to take a community college course on how computers work, please.

Does that cover steam functions as well?
I got the impression it only happens with steam for this user
ItsFlashMF 24 JUN 2019 a las 2:26 p. m.
again you obviously are still under the impression i have steam files located anywhere other than the default locations on my c drive, steam has no reason to touch those drives asides from possibly the reason mentioned above, which i might state you *the computer expert* didnt mention in the 2+ years youve been attached to this thread... guesss we both learned something today why dont you sit down and thank the real experts.
