Help using Steam Controller without Big Picture.
Big picture, or just the steam overlay in general is unneeded to play my games. Having big picture open actually inhibts the game running properly. I had lost all mouse and keyboard input, becuase I got a anouncement from Steam overlay and it wouldn't go away and trying to open overlay resulted in the game not recieving input. Big pictures notifications are huge. I can turn off the notifications sure but that's not going to solve the underlying problem

So any way Steam controller is useful without Big Picutre? Or will I have to use a ps4 controller or always disconnect controller when I wanna close big picuture? My Joy stick doesn't need special software to run.

It's annoying because
1. It doesn't always start without opening a seperate window when I want to use the controller
2. If I close the window for big picture sometimes it closes big picute
3. When I play games that don't need the controller, unplugging is not a big deal. However having to open a seperate window as it doesn't always start big picture mode simply by plugging in the controller.

I can turn of big picture just fine with my controller.
There is a controller setting that turns off controllers when you exit big picture, is that enabled for you?

Well If I turn off Steam overlay, It seems I won't get to use the Controller config I have set for it..
Pain in the butt man. It's annoying enough to have to rely on a medium between games but for your inputs too is quite silly :) Damn Consoles seem mighty apealling these days if you wanna play games with controllers. I have an old Controller that works fine with my Adapter. However, they arn't cheap to replace as they don't make em anymore.

They work with a single Driver, which is kinda like steam but I don't have to have anything running in the back ground to use it. Right.

Okay I found settings in Interface I think that's what you mean? so It starts not in a new window? Although Turned Resolution down, I don't really use the menu as I can just browse with my controller as if it's a mouse. my moniter 19 " that's enough for me to still read the normal steam library with the controller. and using my bunji chair.

Dunno man, It's annoying You know how to turn off Announcements from groups and stuff?

Oh, so you mean the big picture overlay? You don't have to use big picture for Steam but you have to use the big picture overlay with the controller. You kind of need it to change bindings.

I don't think it's that bad but I also don't experience all these problems you added to your post. Can you explain 1 and 2 a bit more?

You can disable announcements in the Steam settings.

Don't know at all what this "new window" thing is.

In big picture, hit the big "power" button and select "exit big picture".

Maybe I just havn't figured out how to navigate it, I can't see notifications for this message for example.

Yeah starting to realize Big picture is needed to use the controller with steam games. Maybe I just have to get used to it and just leave it running but must unplug for game like Skyrim as I not really comfortable playing that with a controller and it forces it as the main input.

Yeah I have announcements disabled but in Big picture they are not apperently and they linger way to long. Like forever till I close the game,

I dislike third parties getting into games, Origin and Uplay alike . So Steam is no different. I have civ 5 on disk somehow I only have the Expansions on Steam :(. Sucks man. I miss the old days. Digital games don't hold any value is a rip off tbh.
Physical games will always be superior :/ However that Off Topic, just guess I will get used to using big picture and just use it for all my games :) Except the games that will not work with controller.

if this is still relevant, open your game with the steam controller off, go into the steam overlay (shift tab), click settings, in-game tab, and deselect the "use the big picture overlay when using a steam input enabled controller from the desktop" checkbox.
if i start a game with the steam controller plugged in it forces big picture to start. is there any way to avoid this? since big picture was a abandoned and is a buggy piece of crap.
