Incompatible ASPproxy.dll (Astrill)
I've tried updating both Astrill as well as Steam (reinstalls as well) but I keep getting an error upon starting Steam that "An incompatible version of ASProxy.dll (related to Astrill VPN) has been detected inside of the Steam process". Is my only option to disable Astrill because that's where the conflict is coming from? Edit: The problem is that I'm in China, so the VPN is kind of a necessity to have for running things unrelated to Steam.

Your reply isn't helpful at all. I'm not using a VPN with Steam. It's just installed. Having Astrill and Steam installed has been fine for literally years, until today when I was forced to reinstall Windows.
hello, i just asked the same problem to Astrill contact and they replied. It worked like charm. Here is the solution:
1-Log in to Astrill application > Press "CTRL" and click on help then select the option of "Uninstall LSP
2-Confirm the prompt then and click ok.Then you need to restart the device.
3- Try again to connect with Astrill again and it should work fine then.

It seems you just need to uninstall LSP lol

Thnx Mate, Even The Astrill support that i was talked cant handle this.
great post.
cheers

I came accross this problem also and the suggested solution works but does anyone know what uninstalling/turning off LSP actually does with regards the VPN.
What does it do when installed and when you uninstall it what is no longer a function of the VPN?

Basically if you use Chrome you won't be able to use it unless you run Astrill. Firefox is unaffected.

I'm still not sure what uninstalling LSP actually does.
I use Chrome and Firefox. Both worked before I uninstalled LSP and both still work now.

I'm back to my original question of what was available in Astrill with LSP installed and what is no longer available now that it is uninstalled. The astrill documentation is poor in that it says how to intall/uninstall but doesn't say anything else about what it is.
Thanks for the reply btw.

That's because that VPN product is total garbage. Steam updated its netowrking to be faster using STANDARD windows networking API calls. This VPN software is so garbage it cant handle STANDARD windows networking API calls and causes your entire system to crash.

THus steam detects this POS software and tells you "stop using this POS and get something else"

The solution is "uninstall it"
ever been to china? If not then stfu because astrill is the only one that works. genius
