Cannot activate a dlc

I own Pillars of Eternity (Hero Edition). I have activated it on my steam. I just bought white march DLC steam keys but when I enter their codes to activate them, steam tells me "please activate the original game first then activate the additional content).

Sorry for asking such a noob question, but the original game is ALREADY activated on my steam. What should i do?

Where did you buy the keys? Is it possible you have got the keys for some region restricted version of the game?

I don't think it is a region conflict since it doesn't say the key is not available in your country (I have had that error before) this is an error that specifically thinks I do not have the original game activated, although I do.

Yes, you most likely bought a region restricted russian or asian copy which is not compatible with the license you already have. The DLC expects the russian or asian base version of the game.

Get your money back, buy from authorized resellers in the future and don't circumvent the forum word filter to post the name of unauthorized resellers.

Ok thanks for the answer but I am sure they are not BOTH region restricted. They are from two different providers.
AND there are no authorized sellers or resellers in my country. I prefer to buy my games than pirate them. But there aren't many options for me. And I posted the name of the shop just to be clear and get help. No need to be hostile.

You are probably right, they are not BOTH region restricted, but the DLC code you bought is. For example: you have bought a Russian DLC code, it is expecting the Russian base game. Since your base game is the non restricted international version, you get the message that you need to activate the base game first.

im having this issue right now can someone please help me?! i bought the season pass dlc key (GLOBAL)for dark souls 3 and it is saying i need to activate the game first when i already have 93 hours on record!

Refund it and stop using that shady key site.
