I recently got a game second hand from a thrift store, but the registration code has already been used. is there anything I can do?

There are no used games on Steam. You can't activate the game. Ask the store for your money back.

Contact the store from which you made the purchase.

But you should know that any game with a game key or code should not be bought second-hand becouse the original buyer will have used it.

Nope. Because they already sold that particular copy. So no they will not give you a free copy.. You decided to go cheap and this is what it cost you. You at least have a fancy coaster now.
