Controller settings freezing Steam big picture and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
So in a desperate attempt to make my girlfriends Xbox one controller work again for said game, we changed the key mappings for the game in the Steam big Picture mode but when she started the game everything started lagging and freezing and being displayed in chunks. Im not quite sure how todescribe it. the screen froze and everytime she managed to get somewhere in the in game menu it would just update the frozen screen.

We tried reversing the changes we did but the problem remained.

Are you sure the problem is the controller? the screen freezing and visual errors doesnt really sound like a controller related issue.

Well it just started after changing the controller key bindings, like described in this guide [www.howtogeek.com], for PUBG. Rigth after she made the changes SBP and PUBG started glitching around.

I understand that, but again the game freezing and getting grahpical glitches isnt something normall associated with controllers.

What was the issue you were having with the controller to begin with?

Are these errors still present when you remove the controller and use KB+M?

Couldnt try unplugging because she promptly deinstalled players and is reinstalling it now.
Everything was fine before trying to change the key bindings. And thats also what her problem was, since Thursday's game patch (potentially steam update?) her in game controls were different and unchangeable. Most importantly they removed the way she used to run, and using the ingame options to remap the keys would just delete the new options after starting a match, every time she tried.. Therefor we tried to change it with the BP mode, and now this happened.

It's not Fps lagg or similar, its more like when she opens the game the menu freezes and evertime she manages to change anything (like triggering the glowing of an HUD button) it changes and freezes that new frame right afterwards. The exact same thing happens in the Steam Big picture mode.

This happens in big picture without any games loaded?

Yes

Does big picture still have these issue with the controller disconnected?

It's also worth checking to see if these errors exists when just using steam without BPM

Have to try with disconnected, can't right now.
The issue was still there when launching the game over the ordinary steam mode.

Do you have any overclocks on your system? do you use any overlays? do you monitor temperatures or anything like that?

what do you mean you cant right now? how can you not disconnect a controller?
Empireo Jul 31, 2017 @ 12:33pm
It's my girlfriend who has the issues and she decided to be pissed off and go away for the rest of the evening. In principle we never set up any overclocks or similar, but i can't assure you that there aren't any set by default. I will let you know how it is after reinstalling it (i guess it will either still be there when the controller is plugged in or it will work like before, just that the devs ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the controls and she can't play) (Yet guessing won't help so i'll give an update as soon as i can.

I'm currently not at her place, and she is doing something else right now.

Prior to making the changes in the kep bindings her game run normally (on medium to low setting that is)

Well, just keep an out out on those issues, normally issues similar to that are due to overheating or GPU/RAM related issues.
Empireo Jul 31, 2017 @ 3:40pm
12 GB ram and she just started the pc, and its usually not overheating with that game, especially not if just started for 1 s

i think you were right, it turn out she updated her grafik software (driver) yesterday while getting a new driver for the xbox controller, and after that the issues started. Controller seems to be irrelevant with the matter and we are now trying to look further into it, porbably going to do a rolebackand see if it removes the issues.

the driver is the Crimson ReLive Edition 17.7.2 from AMD for the R9 series. (R9 290) in her case.
