You craft badges to gain steam levels. To get badges you have to trading cards of steam market or get them from playing the games. I belive you can only get like half from playing so you will have to buy trading cards anyways. You get coupons from leveling up your steam acc. They usualy are discounts of games that nobody plays.

To trade you have to have steam guard enabled for 2 weeks. I trading you exchange steam or any game items. Be carefull of scams. Before trading check the other persons items worth, cause it may be way cheaper than yours, and you might later regret trading your item for a cheaper item.

To get achivments you have to play the games. I belive theres a cheat that gets you the achivments in seconds, but i dont recommend using it.

Basically, you can go here and see which games of yours you have trading card drops for. As said above, you can only get half (rounded up) of the drops by playing the game (or, rather having the process running.) Once you've got all the drops, you'll become eligible for booster packs (more on this later)

You can obtain the rest of the cards by trading for them (as their name implies) here or on the game's specific trading subforum post-search here, or by using the Steam Community Market

Once you've got all the cards in the deck, you can turn said deck into a badge (and gain 100 XP). You'll get an emoticon, background and a coupon (during/around holiday events, typically a mystery card/event card). You can either use said background on your profile, and emoticon in the chat; or trade/sell them away as you please. Do note if you acquire cards from the Market, they will have an item specific trading/Market cooldown of 7 days, which will carry over to the crafted items.

There's also badges that don't require cards, like Community tasks badge, the gem creator badge (more on gem creation below), the 50 XP you gain annually by just being a member on Steam, the XP you gain from games you own on Steam (which is rather minimal.)

Booster packs consist of 3 random trading cards from the deck (and they can all be the same; or all be different.) As said prior, once you've got all the droppable cards, you're eligible for booster packs. Every 10 levels increases your chances by 20% (i.e. 1.0x -> 1.2x -> 1.4x ... ) versus other active people's Steam community levels. You can maximize your chances of getting booster pack drops by becoming eligible for booster packs in as many games as you possibly can.

Booster packs can also be created with gems here, received from trades or bought from the Steam Community Market in 1,000 gem sacks.

Gems can be created by turning items, like emoticons / cards / backgrounds from your Steam Community inventory into them (I wouldn't recommend this), or by using the Market (as mentioned above) or by trading for them.

Written FAQ is here:

Holds
Holds take place when items leave an inventory of a person whose Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator hasn't been enabled for the past 7 days.
  • Steam Trade and Market Holds
    • https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8078-TPHC-6195
If you are not able to protect your account with a Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator, a hold will temporarily be placed on items moving away from your account. Trade and market holds protect items if a user's account is compromised. These holds also give users a way to recover items before they are lost. Even if a hijacker manages to access your account, you can prevent them from stealing your items by canceling any transactions that are on hold.
        What is a trade hold?
A trade hold is a period of time after a trade is accepted by both parties where the items traded are held by Steam before they are delivered. Trade holds last up to 15 days. If you're trading items with a friend, and you've been friends for more than 1 year, the hold is 1 day.
        What is a market hold?
A market hold is a period of time after a sell listing is created where the items are held by Steam before they are available on the Community Market.

Do write down your recovery code (allows removal of the authenticator if your phone and its SIM-card breaks for example), and consider printing your backup codes (can be used for login in place of the authenticator codes)

When switching to another phone, refer to this to only get 2 day holds (in place of 15 day holds) for a few days.
