Hiding in game status while remaining online.

I know steam used to have this because several of my friends have a permanent online status inspite of playing games and inviting me to join them in games. I tried looking everywhere for it and now I can't find it. Help please

You can only go ofline for friends or steam, adding notepad as a game and starting it first doesn't work anymore and you can't block what you are playing to your friends.
You could try to log in from another device but for me it doesn't work and still shows what I am playing.

BTW if you can hide what game are you playing but it will still show on your profile with the played hours, achievements etc.
Just get over it and play whatever you want, real friends don't care what are you playing to.

you put yourself offline in the client but online on mobile device, you keep the blue online status but it doesnt say you are playing a game

Oh yes it would work.
But it will still tell the friends what achievements he gets and appear on his profile as the last played game. He should not really care about that.

but my phone tends to time out so i get the offline color so i have to go and wake up my phone

you should be able to set the display timeout in your phone's settings.

If you don't wanna chat because you're playing a game just let people know or set your status to busy. If you don't want to join someone else's game just be honest with them.

There's really no need to hide your status unless you're friends with your boss and you're supposed to be working.

Thanks everyone for the help. I just want to play the game without getting invites and still be able to chat with friends. It's more about playing in peace while staying connected if something comes up.
