Mic working for discord but not steam
I've recently encountered this problem and tried the ff:

1. Disabling Nvidia Share
2. Updating ng video driver
3. Disabling sound effects
4. Checking "volume mixer" from sound option

Here are the screenshots:

I don't think any of those solutions you tried will get it fixed.

It seems that you didn't set your recording device as default but Discord have it correctly configured while Steam is not.

I would like to see your Discord voice settings through screenshot along with Steam voice settings.

I'm lacking one more information, its about the recording devices you have.

Windows Bar > Volume Icon > Right Click > Recording Devices

Here you go (I hummed a lil bit to show that my mic was picking up sound): http://imgur.com/a/DX3ZD

Through the process of elimination, I've thought you've been using the wrong recording device on Steam but not on Discord. Both seems to be working.

I'll be asking more further question to find the problem.

Have you tried voice chatting using only the Steam client?
Is it NOT working only for Valve related games? (CS:GO, DOTA 2 and L4D2) etc..

Have you somehow passed the built in Windows Microphone Set-up?

Incase you passed and the problem still persist, try plugging your microphone to a different microphone audio jack input either at the front or at the rear.

Once you passed that step then your audio jack and microphone drivers is working fine.

If not, try plugging it to another computer and see if its the same results.

Repeat the same steps mentioned above in a different computer until you can identify the problem. When none of it works then the microphone may be defect already or broken.

Hey, bro! Sor yfor the late reply. Was able to fix the problem by attaching the mic to the rear audio jack. I wonder what happened to the front one :/

BTW, thank you so much for the suggestions!

Thank you, this worked! I attached it to the front panel and it started working again.
Very odd, every other program can still utilise the rear panel without fault.

Thanks. :)
