Uploading Gifs
So, I see my friends with artwork and gifs from all different places like anime,cartoons and other stuff. Thing is, when I upload a gif from the internet (like just search up "Megumin gifs" and you will find the one I will use), at the bottom it syas "Please verify you created this artwork" and this scares me because I did not create it, it is from the anime. I do not know a lot about the law and stuff, but I do know I should be careful with this, so is it ok if I upload a gif to my steam profile that is not mine but is on the internet? I am preety simple minded so please anser as simple as possible :/.

did you make the gif? did you make the artwork used in the gif?

No, I mean I did not make the gif or the artwork. It is from an anime and lots of people just took clips from it and made a gif

There is the lnk to the way I am trying to upload my gif. The guy making the tutorial did not make the gif and yet he still uploaded it

A lot of users just ignore that they are not the creator. As long as no copyright holder will spot the artwork and files a DMCA with Steam nothing much can happen.
But its definitely against the rules if you upload artwork like that.
Just because a lot of people do it does not make it legal.
So its more a question of personal moral. Will something happen if you upload such a artwork? Most likely no. But should you do it? That is something you have to answer for yourself.

if the person who made the gif files a DMCA claim on the gif, dont whine about it here.
