How do I render games in 4k on a 1080p monitor.
I recently got a new GTX 1060 graphics card and I am happy with it, except for one thing. Anti-aliasing keeps missing points and I tend to notice them on occassion. It's not a major concern but in games where I am getting 4 times the framerate my monitor can display (and don't need the boost in response time coming from this), I feel it would be better to play the games in downscaled 4k.

The issue is, it never appears in the options. I'm sure I could tweak it in the config files for each individual game but is there any way to alter my computer so that 4k would appear in the resolution options of games?

Use DSR[www.geforce.com].

Enable DSR or use custom resolutions and enable 2160p within the nvidia control panel.
If you're only slightly bothered by some aliasing and want to remove it without having to deal with any performance cost of higher resolutions, use ReShade and inject SMAA.

You can also use DSR to make it playable, though having a 1080p game would make your games deliver better FPS than on 4K
This is for games that I don't care about FPS, such as 'what remains of edith finch' and games like 'the beginners guide' where performance isn't really a conceivable issue.

That seemed to help, thanks.
