Steam big picture mode using integrated gpu.
When I go to system settings in big picture mode it shows my my inegrated gpu as default and I would like to change that to my nvidia gpu.
I have tried going to nvidia settings and adding steam.exe manually there but that doesn't help.
Also in big picture its showing my cpu core speed as 0.

I gave up, but I played doom the other day and it was running at 60 fps so there's no way thats my integrated gpu. Just a bug or something with the steam link.

Thanks. After searching it seems that Big Picture has had similar problems for years (it does the same locally on my laptop) and somehow Valve doesn't care to fix it.

It doesn't need fixing. Big Picture mode has a hardware accelerated UI.

On Nvidia Optimus setups 2D graphics are handled by the onboard GPU.

Therefore Big Picture will always use the onboard graphics and is reporting correctly. The minute you launch a 3D game, assuming you have everything set up correctly. Your dedicated GPU will kick in.

Yes it does. I play on my laptop with onboard graphics (Intel UHD 620), when steam is running in BPM the GPU usage is at > 90% and the fan gets really loud, which is annoying and wears it off more.

Yes, Valve should be concerned about your fan annoying you and your silly concerns about fan wear. /s

Or

Don't you know Valve is in bed with Big Fan? It's a conspiracy man.

While you're being a sarcastic d*ck without contributing to the discussion at all, I posted my issue in the appropiate forums and made an argument. That BPM using lots of resources also affects the framerate in games has already been said countless times.

So Windows 10 & beyond overrides the Nvidia settings that decide what's used for each application, as far as I know.

My big picture mode was running quite slow even after changing the Graphics Settings for the Steam client in windows to use the Nividia GPU. You can do this by hitting start & typing graphics settings; It should pop up straight away.

After looking at the Task Manager while big picture mode was running I've found the actual application it runs from is the 'Steam Client Web Helper', or specifically the file named steamwebhelper.exe. Mine's located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64\steamwebhelper.exe.

Add this file to the list in Windows' own graphics settings page, tell it to use the High Performance GPU & boom. Mine's running pretty slick now!

I know this is an old post but I hope it helps someone! 👍

Um..... Kinda' contradicted yourself there.

I think he doesn't want the graphics to kick only when the game starts, but as soon as he boots into Big Picture mode. I literally just fixed the problem myself so no, I don't believe the big picture mode is hardware accelerated off the bat. I had to tell windows to use the Nvidia GPU for the 'Steam Client Web Helper' application as well & it's improved it drastically!

Can't win 'em all, I guess! 😅

Is it weird that I haven't heard the word 'silly' in ages?

Not sure if you've fixed your issue but I managed to fix mine by changing the graphics preference on Windows settings itself.

The file you're looking for is the Steam WebHelper. I saw this by using Task Manager while Big Picture is on.

If installed in the default location that's:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64\steamwebhelper.exe

Hit the Windows key, type "graphics". 'Graphics settings' itself should be one of the results.

Open Graphics settings and under 'Add an app', click on Browse and a dialog box should pop up. Input the location of steamwebhelper, click on steamwebhelper, then click add.

Once on the list (you probably need to scroll down), mine shows 'Steam Client WebHelper'. Click that, click Options, then choose 'High performance'. Then click save and try running Steam BP.

Good luck!

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
