Games loosing registration.
Periodically when i have been offline I notice from time to time a big chunk of my games are not registered as if they have never been ran. I have complained about this before as these games should not require an online connection to play, nor should steam.

I have come down to these few ideas, but I am not sure which one if any might be the cause.
1. DRM issues, considering these things happen even with games like batman AK whcih like others I think only uses steam works perhaps it is some kind of steam registry error.

2. The games auto updating, considering I get updates all day because I own over 1200 games I do not pay attention to the updates, but perhaps its almost like reinstalling the game. If so is there a way to correct this or at least turn all auto updates off for all games not one at a time?

Sample of GTA but at least 30 of my games had to be preregistered. after being offline for 2 days http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/186171449010529301/EBDDCE90503AE661CA37CC5E75E65D0FAA31C01C/

I don't think this is related to Grand Theft Auto V specifically, but if Steam knows an update is available for a game, it won't allow you to launch it in offline mode until the update has been applied.

There needs to be a way to shut that off. also disable all updates instead of one game at a time for someone with many games it is not a solution to dissable a games funtionality or force updates like that for games that are single player.

I mean, it's in the Steam Subscriber Agreement.

For reasons that include, without limitation, system security, stability, and multiplayer interoperability, Steam may need to automatically update, pre-load, create new versions of or otherwise enhance the Content and Services and accordingly, the system requirements to use the Content and Services may change over time. You consent to such automatic updating

Having the games auto-update is a selling point for developers, so it's unlikely Steam will be making it optional any time soon. The best you can do is ask Steam not to update until the game is launched.

The option exists, just game by game basis. I don't care about user agreements stop sticking up for the seller I am a buyer. And one hell of a buyer at that My opinion reflects many. To disable a game that is single player offline because of an update is not good for the consumer. To tell people to deal with an agreement that is unfair to them is bad for both the buyer and the seller.

no need to get authoritarian I am simply stating what needs to be done, and probably am not the first to bring this up and if steam ever looses its connectivity for a period that others will notice it. I am sure the backlash would be large enough for them to regret being anticonsumer.

It really doesn't. Regardless of what you choose in the settings, games will never work in offline mode when Steam is aware an update is queued, and will always download the update when you attempt to launch the game.

If you feel this strongly about the issue, you may wish to consider purchasing DRM free games.

If i shut off auto-update or even roll back the Ver. # it will not do that. I mean you do realise you can select different versions of the game which kinda makes your point moot.

Does every request have to be met with athoritarian responses? buyers are the ONLY reason valve has a service. Learn to take a request and adress issues that are unfair to the buyer, or risk loosing customers who actually buy things on steam. I am not sure how much more I have to outline how free markets work.

You cannot shut off auto-update. The options are

  • Always keep this game up to date
  • Only update this game when I launch it
  • High Priority - Always auto-update this game before others

The first one is the default behavior; the second one will not stop Steam from checking for updates and requiring it for offline mode, it simply queues the download instead of starting the download; and the third simply changes the order in which updates are downloaded.

You seem to be under the impression I am something other than a Steam user like you. This is a user forum, Valve staff do not respond on the forums. You can leave a suggestion in the Suggestions / Ideas forum if you would like to get Valve's attention.

Besides If this does not get fixed I can take my library and simly go through the hastle of updating everything then logging off and blocking this service for good from connecting. Either way works for me I see no issues with just going somewhere else to buy games. Knowing they will work is all I am concerned about. It does no one any good having games that are single player that do not work offline, NO EXCUSES!

You forgot the option:

• Block all valve services with firewall after updating.

Sorry none of you control me or the fair use of the purchases I Have made.
