Games that I usually run smoothly now runs like potato
I am using a ASUS ROG GL552VW. A few days ago, the games that I usually run at decent fps now runs horribly, and the scary thing is that I can't figure out why. Power settings are on high performance, and i've set my Nvidia card as prefered card. My specs are as follows :

Intel Skylake Core i7-6700HQ CPU, quad-core 2.6 GHz (3.5 GHz TBoost)
Integrated Intel HD 530 + Nvidia GTX 960M 4GB Vram
16 GB DDR4 2133Mhz (2xDIMMs)

I don't know what other specs I need to post, but if anyone helps with this I'll be really grateful.

Did you recognize a temperature increase while the performance gets bad?

Yes and no. I can't tell the difference since whenever I play games when It was running normally, the temperature increases anyway.
Try using a program like SpeedFan or Open Hardware Monitor. Start a game, then Alt + Tab out and watch the temperatures. Once they stabilize, please post what temperatures your CPU and GPU are hitting.

Sounds like a Microsoft Redistributed thing. Possibley
Microsofts web page and search Redistributed. Most times it gets messed up after a crash. It can also stop a game from starting.

Also an install of a Spy Ware or the like can do it. You would have to click allow access uninterupted to the Virus program. in that case. They check every file as it loads and slows down executions.

I don't think its a virus since I barely download anything.

Yeah, I'll try that. Will let you know when I have the results.
Those system specs should run almost anything. You do have a water cooler for your cpu right? A 6700k is prefered to have a water cooler. if your temps go obove 80c it will put itself into thermal throttling meaning it will lower the amount of power the cpu gets reducing its performance.

Did you upgrade your monitor lateley? If so double check and make sure your display cables are plugged into the GPU and NOT the motherboard. If there plugged into the motherboard then it wont be using the gpu it will be using the cpus integrated graphics.

I do not have a water cooler. How do I get my cpu out of thermal throttling ?

You have to cool it better

How long have you had this laptop? Maybe it is time to dust it.

Only use your laptop on hard surfaces, so the vents are left open. And you may want to invest in a cooling pad.

Wait for it to cool down. As why i said you should have a water cooler for that type of cpu. Just wait until your temps drop but i doubt its in thermal throttling. Did you plug your diplay cable in to ypur gpu or is it in your motherboard? Ok its a laptop......

Yes it's a laptop, I doubt it's thermal throttling since the gameplay is already bad before it even starts getting warmer.
