CPU BOTTLENECK
hey guys, i have an i5 4570 3.2ghz, which boosts to 3.6ghz (apparently), although its more like 3.4ghz. anyway, i recently upgraded to a gtx 1060. I was assured bottlenecking wouldnt be an issue, but whilst running bf1 and overwatch, as examples, my CPU % hit 100% on both games. Is there a problem im missing? or should i just save and invest in an i7? Thanks

So with regards to Battlefield 1, your CPU is actually weaker than the minimum processor, which puts you behind the eight ball so to speak. Overwatch recommends the rather vague and unhelpful "Intel Core i5", which you do technically meet, but there are a lot of processors in the Core i5 family.

Your CPU should perform adequately in most games, to be honest.

exactly.. so i dont know why im getting the bottleneck in overwatch as well. Do you think its worth upgrading to an i5 6600k? and upgrading to a compatible mobo? because i know for bf1 my cpu is outdated, so i want to run that smoothly without bottlenecking. Thanks for your reply.

I would not upgrade from an i5-4670 to an i5-6600k, as they are too close in performance to justify the cost. I'm not sure this is so much a case of bottlenecking, as the two games in question having significant CPU requirements; in the case of Overwatch significantly higher than the GPU requirements, as the recommend GPU is a GTX 660.

For most games a GTX 1060 will run, the i5-4670 will not hold you back much. These two games might be rather bad examples of that situation though.

thanks for that guys. Im pretty new to the whole pc moding and am learnign slowly so im afetr all the help i can get. So with my current set up, would you look to upgrade to anything at all, or is this a case of the games being very cpu dependant? it was similar with HITMAN also. Ill try it on a less intense game like cs:go and see what usage i get.

If you are going to upgrade anything, it would be the CPU I'd upgrade. I'm just not sure about the benefit of going from the i5-4670 to the i5-6600, as from what I have read you are looking at around a ~13% performance increase. I wouldn't personally pay more than $200 for that increase, but it's ultimately up to you.

yeah doesnt seem logical at all.. but i would love to play bf1 at a stable fps. I just entered a 64 man map and struggled to get abouve 55fps on low settings
