'Steam:' is not recognized as an internal or external command
When I try to use steam in cmd, it says
'steam:' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
I tried refreshing the files and it didn't work, and I know it's supposed to because I've seen people do it. Is there any way around this?

In cmd you can use
start steam:(whatever)
to pass commands to steam.

your registry is broken
add steam.reg
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\steam] "URL Protocol"="" @="URL:steam protocol" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\steam\DefaultIcon] @="steam.exe" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\steam\Shell] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\steam\Shell\Open] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\steam\Shell\Open\Command] @="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)/Steam/steam.exe/" \"%1\""

or rename steam folder and install it again, then copy files from old folder

1. Right click desktop, go to new, and click text document in the context menu.
2. copy and paste code into the text document
3. click file and save as
4. change save type to all files
5. change the file name to steam.reg
6. save the file onto your desktop.
7. double click it and restart your computer.

The right way is @="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)/Steam/steam.exe/" \"%1\"" instead of @="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)/Steam/steam.exe/" \"%1\""

Steam Discussions broken registry code, just save steamapps, userdata in safe place and re-install client

This has nothing to do with a specific game, also the thread has gone 3 years without a post.
