Open the task manager to check which applications are using the disk in an excessive way.

Both my gf and my laptop does this. It pisses me off. I think it's just bc of ♥♥♥♥ hardware. I don't use my laptop for steam. I built my own gaming pc.

I had this as well, try and see if the service Superfetch causes this. Just find it in your Taskmanager under the services tab and right click on it, than click stop, if it does stop the disk being used a 100% disable the service for good (it's a obsolete service for windows 10 anyway), here is how: https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/fix-100-disk-usage-in-task-manager-improve-pc-performance-on-windows-10/

Thanks I did that along with a few other things like windows search etc. I still get the annoying opening up task manager and watching the system max out my disk usage. When playing certain games. I wonder If maybe I should get a SSD?

I'm running Win10 with GTX 1050ti 4GB RAM, 16GB DDR4 and Intel i-6700k and don't have issues. If you're using a GTX 970 w/ 8GB RAM and a 2.6ghz processor, you should be fine too. What's the process that's running at 100%?

I think it might be Windows Compatability Telemetry. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/disabling-windows-compatability-telemetry/f1437548-84ae-4421-9a07-45feb17cab86
