I want to start Steam Link WITHOUT big picture mode starting automatically

I have my computer always connected to the steam link, it's absolutely excellent for connecting to my big TV and I use it for my everyday computer use.. however, every time i restart my computer or it gets disconnected by something like the run as admin dialog it seems to need to go into big picture mode automatically.. I actually don't like or use big picture mode, I just find it a lot easier to use everything as I have for years.. so my question is.. does anyone know of a way to connect the Steam Link to my computer without it starting big picture mode automatically? I was hoping for a check box in the settings somewhere but haven't seen it.

There is, its called "Stream desktop" or "Start in desktop mode" or something like that.

I searched through all of the settings in Steam and in big picture mode but still couldn't find any option to not start Steam Link in big picture mode, only settings for starting Steam itself in big picture mode. Just to clarify, Steam is automatically going into big picture mode when I connect the Steam Link to my computer, Steam itself still starts in desktop mode without using the Steam Link.

Maybe its stil a beta thing. Try the Steam link beta. I cant check right now.

Hi,
Have you found a way to do this?
As the steamlink is still a quite buggy peace of ehm steam I also have to restart it a lot and it is ehm... steaming annoying that this useless steam big picture mode always starts.

A fix of this ehm.. steam would be greatly appreciated. Thx

For anybody still reaching this from Google (like me):
Go to your Steam Link Settings > Streaming, press (Y) or equivalent to open Advanced Settings, and you'll see an option to stream desktop. Enable it and the streaming will start without Big Picture from now on.

Did the menus change? I'm at a complete loss for how to find this option. I use Steam Link almost exclusively for streaming video from my desktop and have almost zero need for Big Picture Mode

Thank you BUT now that I have it starting in desktop mode can I stop it in desktop mode? I've been having to turn on big picture to turn off the stream.

Edit: In the advanced stream settings I set the overlay button to start because the default would just turn off the controller instead, then when I held start the overlay would pop up and I could turn off the steam link from there.
