Got an alert that a attempt was made to login to my account
It's been a few weeks since I've gotten on Steam. However, a few hours ago, I got an email telling me that a login for my account was attempted from Novotroitsk, Russia (I've never been to Russia).

I plan to do what the Steam Guard email is saying and change my password, and wipe my credit card info from my account (if possible). But what really scares me is that the email says the login attempt included my correct account name and password.

The reason I am posting this is to ask if it's possible that I accidently downloaded something that tells hackers my password whenever I type it into Steam? Could this software still be on my computer?

If the answer is yes, what should I do about it?

I would download a great keylloger remover, apparently it's the program that they installed on your computer.
Malwarebytes free does that function really well.

of course it's possible; you should download Malwarebytes anti-malware[www.malwarebytes.com] Roguekiller[www.adlice.com] and Kaspersky Anti Virus[usa.kaspersky.com] do scans with all 3 products and remove/take actions to remove all viruses/malware you have, (of course, get the free versions, though, paid version of malwarebytes anti-malware is preferable for the long run,) there's bound to be things these can't clean up, if you want the best free PC technical support, I recommend posting on the Bleeping Computer Forums[www.bleepingcomputer.com].

Best thing to do is wipe whole data and make fresh install of windows....idk but i heard that some of thos craps stay hidden to antivirus and other apps so try it if it keeps happening after cleaning :/

I also plan on doing a complete CCleaner run. Do you think that would work?

Thought I would give a follow-up:

I ended up changing my password and email, as well as wiping my credit card info from my account. After the programs finished scanning, there was malware detected on my computer, which was removed. I didn't do a clean install of windows, but I did wipe quite a bit of data.

Also, I went back and looked at other steam guard emails from the past few months that I really haven't read (my steam email is no longer my main email address). Attempted logins were also made from Richmond Hill, Georgia, US (I do not live here), Riga, Lativa (I've never been here), and Almaty, Kazakhstan (I've never been here either). It seems my account's security has been seriously compromised.

Is there any way to tell steam to ignore any login attempts from outside the US?

No, I do recommend posting on the bleeping computer forums though and requesting assistance with permanent removal of viruses, traces that those may have left/etc. absolutely free, but might take 5 days for them to respond, they'll guide you through step by step though.
