try reinstall steam or look for any ubuntu updates firstly, then if still nothing changed then i would do a bit of research on what valve had changed in their update to cause this.

  1. Let's start with
    • (left top corner) Steam -> (pop-up window) Settings -> (tab) Web Browser -> (button") "Clear Cookies"
    • (left top corner) Steam -> (pop-up window) Settings -> (tab) Web Browser -> (button") "Clear Browser Cache"

  2. Test the issue again.

  3. If the above doesn't work : (sory i do not know the Linux equivalents for these folders, it's written for Windows)
    • Close Steam
    • remove shortcuts to the Steam launcher from Start Menu, Desktop, Taskbar, Quicklaunch or where-ever you keep shortcuts.
    • manually remove (written for Windows, i do not know the equivalent for Linux or Mac)
      C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Steam\htmlcache\htmlcache
Note : this is a hidden folder in Windows, you may need to set hidden folders to be visible in your OS settings.
    • Then restart Steam with steam.exe in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam or C:\Steam (or where you have Steam installed on Ubuntu).
