Bug report: Generic Xinput pad seemingly randomly doubling input when configured through Steam

e.g. Hit A to confirm something, but it hits A twice in quick succession for one button press.

I never had this issue prior to trying out the new Xbox/Generic Xinput Steam Controller Config options, but suddenly I'm double tapping buttons with one press constantly. FYI they're set to the Gamepad template for generic Xinput, with a few tweaks for specific apps/games (e.g. changing X to toggle, for Mario games with a run button, so I never have to give my hands grief via holding the button down for hours at a time). Any chance you guys could figure out how to fix it?

Also I apologize if this is the wrong forum, there's no bug report forum or Steam Support forum, so this one's the closest I can see.

Do you connects two controllers?
If so, I mention it too.

No, only one (right now).

I've been primarily testing this with a single pad; I have others, but they're not plugged in and will remain that way until this issue is resolved.
