[SOLVED] How to solve Steam games stuttering and FPS drops upon LMB clicking
TL;DR: The solution is to uninstall Steam and then install it again.

EDIT: Se você é brasileiro, veja aqui: https://steamcommunity.com/app/730/discussions/0/527273789693264259/?ctp=2#c143388132202793387

I've been struggling with this issue for a while, until it got insanely worse recently, maybe over the last month. I've looked up everywhere and people were complaining about issues with different games, but the problem was always the same. So I've made tons of tests and I'm sure this is a Steam issue.

What? When?
The game you're playing through Steam shows a microstutter when you click on the LMB. If you spam-click, it's more noticeable. The FPS drops a lot. It happens with all games, regardless of how much of your resources it uses.

What this issue is NOT:
- Related to a specific game
- Caused by your hardware/software
- Caused by virus/malware
- Caused by Steam Client's Beta (I don't use it)

What this issue IS:
- A Steam Client bug
- Something that also affects the Steam Client itself (if you wanna check, see if there's a lag between clicking a button and it activating, or check for lags when you check/uncheck options in Settings)

What is unknown about this:
- What causes this exactly
- Why does it gets slightly worse/better sometimes
- Why does inverting LMB and RMB in Mouse Settings solve this issue, even though you use 100% confirmed working mouses
- Why does a clean Steam install solve this issue
- Why it doesn't affect everyone

---------------------

All that said, I really hope that Valve works on this issue as soon as possible. I'll try to open a ticket with support as well, but I thought this information should be made public.

what? never heard of this... and most of my games have LMB bound to "fire" at minimum. I'm saying LMB is one of my most used controls in any game.

Besides that, this is still the first time I've seen this issue. Doesn't sound like Steam causing it at all. Many others would be complaining.

Gimme a second, I'll find the threads in game-specific forums

If it's not Steam, why would reinstalling Steam fixes the issue? I didn't even have to restart my PC. I'm aware that it doesn't affect everyone, but it affects only my Steam games.

Ok, all the example are from CS:GO (which I don't play), but there's an easy explanation for that:
- A LOT of people play CSGO
- It's game in which this lag is really annoying
- Most results I got from google pointed to Malware, hardware etc, which is not the case, so many people end up thinking it's their computer's fault and either get better computer or just learn to live with it

EDIT: And most people claim the issue was solved after the formatted their PC, while I solved my issue by just reinstalling Steam.

If it's exclusively at my end, why does it affect only Steam?

I don't know if having a large library has any influence over this issue. I have over 5k games

Also, my basic specs:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3330 CPU @ 3.00GHz
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
RAM 8.0 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 10, 64-bit

Next time this happens, try clearing Steams web cache first. Just to see...

Hmm, happened again. And it didn't work. I'll try signing up to Beta to see if there are any changes.

No, nothing.

Running Steam as admin fixes it, but I don't know the full implications of doing it.
Silicon Vampire Jan 20, 2017 @ 8:37pm
Did you run the Steam Installer as Admin when Installing? I do not believe it is needed after that. I'll need to poke around a bit...

-EDIT----------------------------------

I seem to remember, if you don't, these kind of issues crop up from time to time.

I'm not sure. I think I didn't choose the option, but I think you can only install Steam as admin. Maybe I'll give it a try later. After running Steam once, closing it, and then running normally, I didn't get the bug either. But maybe it's a matter of time. I'll keep you posted!

I noticed the installer has that shield, so I think it runs as admin automatically, doesn't it? I'm pretty sure I had to run it as admin now.
