Getting a windows saying "Windows cannot find vcredist_x64/86.exe. Please make sure you typed in correctly"
When i go to run the launcher for elder scrolls online, i get 2 windows pop up. One says windows cannot find find vcredist_x64.exe. please make sure you typed the name correctly, then try again." and the other is the same thing except its vcredist_x86.exe. Do i need to reinstall steam or just give in and buy a program that scans and repairs? i tried reinstalling elder scrolls online but that didnt work. same with repairing the vcredist files. If I have to purchase a repair program, are there any preferred recommendations that are safe to use?

You need to download the correct vc redistributables for that game.

if you have the executables in the folder itself, run one, and do an uninstall and reinstall, then reboot the PC and try to run the game.

vcredists will be in steamapps\common\%game%\_CommonRedist\%year%
if not there, run steam as Administrator and check game cache integrity
maybe your os broken or infected...
and you don't need buy programs

By default, it will install both 64 and 32-bit versions.

A folder called CommonRedist should be located in the Elder Scrolls Online directory.

I do not own this game on steam but do own it off steam, and was able to run it fine after just launching the game and no extra installs (so after it installed them automatically I presume) it sounds like OP's redists are corrupt so he should install it; I never knew of a game that needs both the 32 bit and 64 bit but, if that's it then reinstall both I suppose.

I ran something called ReImage which scanned the system and it came up with several errors. It said free but when I went to repair and fix it took me to the purchase product page. Is there something free that will actually repair system files?

Just use the SFC /scannow command in a command window or Powershell.

ReImage is a PUP(Potentially Unwanted Program) - bloatware, useless programm that broken your os :steamsad:

for PC maintenance and troubleshooting command line enough, knowledge, and, in some cases, a some of utilities from Piriform, Sysinternals (Microsoft), and Nirsoft

recommended to use SFC /scannow in safe mode with networking.

also yes, seven7 is correct, I recommend getting roguekiller and malwarebytes anti-malware and doing a full scan of your system if you're the type to download things like Relmage

i was trying to get a playstation 2 emulator to work and i think in that attempt thats when things went wrong. i tried sfc /scannow (not in safe mode but will attempt it) and it came up no problems. i tried verifying the game cache and it says 508 files failed and will be reacquired but i've tried that a few times with no success. ill try roguekiller if it's recommended and safe to use.

roguekiller AND malwarebytes anti malware, both free versions, do a scan with both, because you have atleast 1 PuP on your system, https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/roguekiller/ https://www.malwarebytes.com/
