Games that crash before even launching..... ( + FIX + ) (THE REAL ONE FOR ME)
THE PROBLEM
----------------------
There have been a lot of people having the same issue I have been having, and apparently it's been going on for years with no real solution. Some games in your library can't be launched. You click the play button, it says it's launching, says it's syncing, and then just closes.

Some of the games that I encountered this with were Hero Siege, Rogue Legacy, Dungeon Land, and many have had the same issue with Killing Floor 2, Rocket League, Arma, and GTA 4. These are not the only games that can be effected.

You've probably seen some cheeky motha say, "USE THE SEARCH THERE'S ALREADY A FIX," and then proceeded to link you to this:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6218-USFX-5568 :steamsalty:
Or some other equally useless link telling you to Verify Game Cache, which is what everyone tries first, but some people still think it's the solution to everything, when the solution may vary from person to person. :steamsalty:

If you're like me none of these solutions worked. Not even all the time consuming one's steam listed. :steamsalty: I'm guessing most of you are because not once have I seen someone say, "Yep that link you sent me worked."

THE SOLUTION
-----------------------

For me the solution was simple but took a while to figure out. If you're like me you keep things on your computer organized the way you like. For instance, putting your steam folder in a GAMES folder on your C Drive instead of having it directly within the programfiles (x86).

Move your steam folder and all of it's contents back into programfiles (x86) and make sure all of your games are installed there instead of a separate location. If you have games that you installed elsewhere Uninstall them and Re-Install them normally, not to a separate location/drive. Then enjoy playing all the games that had this issue with.

Hope the solution works for you guys.

-Sincerely

I beg to point out that your solution is merely a workaround (and publicly known one as well).

If your game refuses to launch from Program Files (or anywhere on "C:\" drive) you have system permission issue which means that Steam/game executable have not enough permission to execute stuff.

That's either caused by screwed up system user files, system user permissions, antivirus software, etc.

It is also generally recommended to use separate drive/partition for games so you do not need to bother with actually fixing your system :3
Ŋɑxcεɭ Jun 22, 2017 @ 4:06am
Really? That's interesting. Had a fresh install of Windows, no Anti-Virus installed, had the games running as administrator, made sure all of my drivers were up to date, firewall was off.

It was not a permissions issue, my system user files are fine, and there is no anti-virus on my system (because of issues like this.)

I would also like you to link me to anywhere this "workaround" is posted as well if it is so pubically known. I delved into coutless forums and discussions and not once did I see anyone use this.

Also for the record it is entirely possible that some games have a specific launch directions, so when you click launch it goes through a list of prerequisites and runs into an error when it's looking for something one place and it happens to be in another place. It would have nothing to do with steam, but the configuration of the game.

Never the less the fix worked for me so I don't know why you feel you need to fap about it. If it will help at least one person solve this issue for them than it's worth more than your empty criticism regarding my fix will ever be.

Does this method also work for Linux? I have read countless forums and not once has someone given me information regarding Linux users. I haven't been able to use any of my steam games, which is only two (PAYDAY 2 and CS:GO), for weeks now and it's really pissing me off.

To make it clear once again. All my games have been running fine until 2-3 weeks ago. Nothing has changed on my setup, there was a steam client update back then and after that none of my games launched anymore. I can't believe that there is nobody out there who is able to help here. Isn't there any official steam support that I can contact?

Hey Half-Lord and Half-Savior!

Two words: It works!

So thank you (you don't know how i'm glad that a friend send me on your post!)

Your solution was, in fact, the first part of the solution for this f****** incredibly annoying problem!

For the second part, I find my salvation there:
http://freewisdoms.com/download-dll-files-commonly-used-by-games/

I extract the dll files from the "pack" in the correct folders, launch Rocket League and Crusader Kings II and I saw the Light!

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcp100.dll (32-bit version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package runntime library)
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr100.dll (32-bit version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package runntime library)
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr100_clr0400.dll (32-bit version of Microsoft C Runtime library)
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\xinput1_3.dll (32-bit version of Microsoft DirectX runntime library)
C:\Windows\System32\mfc100.dll (64-bit version of Microsoft C Runtime library)
C:\Windows\System32\mfc100u.dll (64-bit version of Microsoft C Runtime library)
C:\Windows\System32\msvcp100.dll (64-bit version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package runntime library)
C:\Windows\System32\msvcr100.dll (64-bit version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package runntime library)
C:\Windows\System32\xinput1_3.dll (64-bit version of Microsoft DirectX runntime library)

Note: For those ones, I was unable to install them on their folder but it seems it doesn't matter (for me nevertheless).

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr100_clr0400.dll (32-bit version of Microsoft C Runtime library)
C:\Windows\System32\msvcr100_clr0400.dll (64-bit version of Microsoft C Runtime library)

So, thank you again! And have fun!

Hey there YoungDoggieKingKongDaSavagePom. I haven't had a chance to try this fix on Linux yet. I mainly have only used Linux for work purposes, not for gaming, but I'm interested to know if it does. If I have the time I'll install Linux on a seperate partition and attempt to replicate and fix the problem and get back to you. I do have quite a bit on my plate at the moment though, so not possitive I'll be able to do it soon.

Steam does have direct support, but I'm not sure how they would address Linux issues. Or if they would have you contact the game developers support.

Awesome GLF I'm glad that it helped, and thank you for sharing the second step you had to take to get your games working again. I didn't have to take that step, but now that it's here other people will be able to use the second step if the initial step doesn't work.

Happy to have you on board with the fix.

This still didn't work for me. GTA V does NOT work, nor does Cities Skyline. Very frustrated.

You can say it doesn't work, but I tried many solutions before this one that "didn't work" for me. Including what the link you just dropped here suggested. While a problem may look the same on the surface the cause of the problem may be different for a variety of people, and rigs. In other words what might fix it for some people may not fix it for others. If you want to post a suggestion for an alternative way of fixing a problem in case one doesn't work for people that's one thing. But a lot of people could clink on your link, thinking this one is completely false and have there issue persist because you said something wouldn't work without knowing the first thing about troubleshooting issues. Already had several people tell me that this fix worked for them.

To everyone else. If this doesn't work I implore you to look for other solutions, but don't disregard any one solution because someone says it won't work. There are a variety of different variables that could be contributing to the issues you're having, and while on the surface the issue may look and be the same, the root of the issue could vary drastically.

[EDIT] Oh I see. You posted the fix you're linking and are discrediting other fixes so people go strait to yours. In other words you're seeking attention at the expense of actually fixing issues that people are having, and at the expense of the community itself. Explains a lot.

you posted a "fix" that doesnt change anything for windows 10 users, im not seeking attention, im just tired of dumbasses posting stuff they know nothing about. For windows 10 users, after the latest windows update, this problem occurs because of a new windows defender update that adds controlled folder access. that is there so people cant attack you with ransome-ware. but it blocks games from using the auto- save or accessing the auto-save files on your pc. you can make exceptions for all the games that you want to remove this problem on, or you can simply turn it off. It took me days of looking through forums and support, trying all these "fixes", but then i decided i would go through my latest windows update details and found the controlled folder access one and i knew that was the problem. and it is automatically enabled for EVERYONE after the update, so the fix is simply there to avoid so many other people from making ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ downloads, that actually harm your pc, or just waste space, or having people completely uninstall or block their antivirus, which leaves the PC highly vulnerable. i can see you are just a dumb kid that doesnt know what hes talking about, that is why you had such an immature response to my comment.

1. I'm using the newest version of windows 10 and have to keep up with software updates for my job.

2. Literally all I said was people should try a variety of different solutions if one doesn't work for them, which is common practice in the IT world. And pointed out that you make a habbit of saying your solution is the only correct one on a variety of different threads, which is inaccurate information.

3. If you're going to call someone out on being immature you really should make sure you're not typing in all caps, or using profanity infinitely more than the person you're talking to. It's a dead giveaway showing who's losing their temper. Throwing a hissy fit about someone calling you on your antics is a mark of immaturity, and claiming that a technological issue can only have one fix is a mark of inexperience.

I'm off this topic. If people want to try my fix or your fix they can. If mine helps people like it has already that's great. If yours helps people that's great. At the core all I wanted to do was help people, not bicker with you. If you want to bicker some more feel free to get in the last word.
