I need permission from myself to delete a folder? (Windows 10)
So after a failed foray into messing with mod folders and text stuff, I'm trying to delete a mod for a game. Said mod in question is Warsword Conquest for Mount and Blade Warband. I've looked up online, got the "take ownership" thing, did that with no fruitful results and I'm now just going through with FileAssasssin deleting every file by hand (still in progress).

Please, does ANYONE know of a solution to this bullsh**? If I redownloaded another copy of Warsword and used that, would my system some how allow me to proceed then? I've done all of the things I could find online and on the Steam forum and I'm really at my wit's end here.

I've got the same issue as you, how do I take ownership of something?

Easiest way is reboot into Safe Mode
Go to root folder in question; such as the Properties of the Steam folder
Security tab > Edit
For Users and then also any UserNames for Accounts on the system; select those and click "Full Control" and then click OK to Apply

The other way I found afterwards was to just uninstall steam, create a new "Games" folder in C Drive and then install Steam into the Games folder along with all the other files. Windows doesn't like it when you mess with files in Pref (86x) so I did some searching and came to an article on how to avoid it with the Games folder.

See if you can drag into the recycle bin. Windows will allow that in some instances when deleting doesn't work.

Delete key same as "dragging to recycle bin" since they are the same exact functions.

^ This always works, so please don't say it doesn't. If it does not, you are clearly doing something wrong. If you truly need help with this, you can add me and I can fix it for you.

That's what I always thought. I suggest it because it has worked for me a few times. The only reason I tried it was to prove somebody wrong and then it worked. "That ain't gonna work. Watch this... drag... drop... gone." Well, what do you know, Surprise surprise! It doesn't work every time but it does work on occasion.

I use a free software called "LockHunter", no matter the cause of a "non-deletable" file, it always helped me. Foolproof.

Just bit the bullet and did this also.

Have the same issue with not being able to update games, delete Steam folder and files, etc.

Dates back to setting up a new laptop earlier this year and using a local user to initially set up the WIN 10 laptop and transfer stuff across from a Win7 laptop.
Steam was one of the first thngs I had copied over and setup.

The I belatedly succumbed to Window's constant pestering and set my main user up as an old, rarely used Microsoft Account.
Deleted the original local user as didn't think I needed it.
It is that user that apparently I need the permission from, to delete the old steam folder.

Ah well ... time to download all the games again and start afresh!
