Disable Steam Authenticator on Primary PC
I have set up two-factor authentication on my Steam account but it asks me everytime I log in on my main PC. I have not checked the box in the Account Settings to not save account credentials but it still asks me to type in the code. How can I allow my PC to be "trusted"?

What about when you logged in? Did you check any boxes then?

That box in the settings should be unchecked, mine is.

it is and has always been unchecked.

Wait, something needs clarification here.

You say "every time I log in". What do you mean by that? Do you mean you click the steam icon and it starts and shows you your games/the store/friends?
Or do you enter your password and maybe even username and hit "login"?

Which one are you doing? Which one do you want?

And again, any checkboxes you avoid or maybe missed in this process?

OK, when I log into Windows, I have steam set to start up. Steam will log in automatically without needing a password. About a year ago I set up the two-factor authentication and had no issues. Just in the past week or so, steam has been requiring a password but not only that, it also wants me to type in the steam guard code on top of that on every login to steam. Is there a setting that I'm missing for making this PC a trusted device or something similar?

When you enter your password there should be a checkbox that basically automatically logs you in. It's called (remember my password or something)

When you use the app for steam guard codes should will ask you for a code every time you log in (log in meaning enter your username and password). This is because it's it's less of a hassle than reading an email I guess? The benefit you get is none of the trade restrictions based on how long you have been using that device.

If your steam client logs you in automatically it won't ask for a code. Your issue is that it isn't logging you in automatically, you have to enter your password and the code comes with that.

You are correct. Even though its always checked to remember my password, it asks me every time i log in.

And this is about the steam client right? Not the website in some browser?

Maybe try to delete everything in the steam folder except steam.exe and the steamapps folder and then start steam.exe and let it download itself again?

Before you do, does offline mode work for you? Just curious, it shouldn't if it asks you for pw every time.

Yea, talking about logging into the steam client. Offline mode works fine. I tried what you said and steam redownloaded everything and just like before, it asks for password and code.

How do you start Steam? Is it from a shortcut?

All I have ever done was set to Run Steam when Windows starts from the Interface tab of the steam settings. All it does is put an entry into the startup folder in windows which grabs the .exe right out of the main directory.

I wonder if some security software on the system is preventing the registry entry for 'AutoLoginUser' or 'RememberPassword' being changed?

If you're familiar with editing the Registry (start > type regedit > enter), go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam and make sure 'AutoLoginUser' is set to your Steam username. You can just double click the entry and type it manually if it's not set.

You should also ensure 'RememberPassword' has a value of 1.

Be careful not to edit anything else at all though.
In Regedit it it has my username saved in the AutoLoginUser string so that is correct. Also the RememberPassword string is set to 1.

Just an update, today for some reason steam logged in automatically without needing a password or code. Hopefully it stays this way.

So either storing your login data (which many are allergic to for good reason) or you cannot bypass this silly app... or you cannot trade properly. Lovely. Interesting how it is not forced when you BUY things on steam. Sure, refund is possible - but still.

I really hate how they shove this app down on our throats. Never seen anyone who liked it - and no, "it's fine" does not count. An email or sms based verification (which basically all proper systems use, like my BANK) would be fine. This is a pain. What if I don't have a "clever" phone? I didn't have one for quite a while.

Yea, I know, it's their system, they can do as they please. And guess what, I can bit*h about it all I please.

Do you have a better idea for a REALISTIC 2FA? Because unless you actually have a better idea, your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is unqualified.
