Are you trying to remove the authenticator? The R code is only used to remove the authenticator.

If you're trying to log in, there should be a tab labeled Steam Guard in the app (supposed to be the first screen when you open the app, that has a code that changes every ~30 seconds. That is the code you need to enter to log in, and the code is only valid for as long as it's on the screen.
