Can you use Steam voice chat while playing non steam games?
(Not sure if this is the right place for this discussion. I don't use this place enough lol)

Okay, so me and my brother have our desktop computers each on the other side of our house. It makes it really hard to communicate so we're looking for microphone headsets for each of us so we can communicate easier.

I'm not really smart when it comes to this stuff, but would we be able to start a voice chat session with each other over steam, and then go to random games that aren't on steam (For example, ToonTown or something) and still communicate with no problem?

Is there a better way to do this other then through steam?
And is there any headsets you'd recommend? I'm not sure what would be the best to even buy.

Sure, voicechat runs through the Steamclient and can be used even without having a game running.

Oh good! Now... What's a good headset with microphone that can connect through USB. And is there anything else I need downloaded for it to work?
